Default 84 corvette issues PLEASE HELP

I have a 1984 corvette that i just purchased with issues.

1 - instrument panel lights up and shows everything including speed and rpms but when it comes to the gauges they all light up but there is no readings at all displayed

2 - i was driving the corvette and the battery just dies on me on the regular only way to get it back up and going is charging the battery and will only last a day at most ( i just put in a brand new battery)

3 - went for a coolant flush since coolant has mud since previous owner only used water unfortunately they could not get out all of the mud and just checked today and there is very little coolant in the tank now

PLEASE HELP!

It's been a long time since my 84, but ...

1. This could be related to your battery issue. I am guessing because there is no display, you can't tell if the alternator is charging.

2. See #1

3. You need to flush all that crap out. If you have to pull the radiator, so be it. You can have it boiled out if it does not leak. The low coolant could be that there is a blockage somewhere and when you think you have filled it, you haven't.

These are not Corvette specific answers, but are based on my experiences with a few cars over a few years.

i just done the battery so i guess the next step is me getting down and dirty with the alternator
i had a shop do a flush but it seems like they did a really bad job would you recommend removing the radiator and sticking a garden hose in the top hose?

Depending how much gunk is in the cooling system you may have to flush the system multiple times to clear it all out.

If the battery died while driving, sounds like a failed alternator. Easy enough to test with a multi-meter.

84s have a voltmeter on the dash..just switch to volts (the other is water temp I believe).
Assuming it works you should have about 14 and change unless it's really hot, then it will be in the 13's (there's a thermistor in the regulator that will cut back field current when it gets hot to help the battery). If you're in the 12's with the car running it's probably alternator time

Very strange that you can see the mph and rpm numbers, but not the gauges. Sounds like it's batee.com to the rescue! It might be just the polarizing film on the center gauges area of the dash module. Easy fix (I hope!).
