My BCM (Body Control Module) died on my 1996 Corvette with the LT4 & 6 speed trans and I had Corvette Paramedics try to fix it. They had the car for 355 days and during that time they finally found a vendor who was able to rebuild it, but they could not reprogram it. Now I'm stuck with my SYS light blinking and no operational PKE system (passive keyless entry) as well as no cruise control. I was told by a local Cheverolet Dealership that the computer used to reprogram the LT4 BCM is outdated and no longer in use. What can be done to restore my BCM completely and make operational all of the things it controls.
You are looking for a Tech1 with the CCM programming cartridge. IDK where you would find the CCM cartridge. I would just keep calling Chevy dealers the older the dealer the better chance the may still have one. No clue how close to you, but I would try Konner Chevrolet the were/are a big time Corvette dealer

Agreed.
Be nice if we had a location. As some of us have the tools.

Thanks for the suggestion of Kerbeck,I live about 50 miles from there.
I have a question for you. Would you happen to know
the part number of the Tech 1 & the program cartridge that goes with it ?
Does the odometer register the same mileage as the vehicle displayed when it was put into the shop + the miles the car has been driven since? If the car shows something reasonable to the appropriate mileage I doubt there's errors in the EEPROM that requires reprogramming.
Does the original key still work and there's been no effort to by-pass VATS (CRANK & FEDS)?
I doubt the SYS and non-functional PKE and cruise is related to the CCM repair.
Do you have the FSM for the car?
I believe the car just might need proper diagnostics if miles are correct and VATS works as expected.
Why was it thought that the CCM had failed initially? A PKE failure or issue could maybe hint/require the need or maybe VATS(CRANk &FEDS) also but maybe the vendor has just failed miserably.
Has anyone ever told you the DTC(s) that have been set? If you've been told the DTC(s) - post them!
If the CCM was returned to you, installed in the car and showed 0 miles then the EEPROM was "ERASED" - if it showed the same miles as was on it then I'm quite sure it wasn't. Even though there's an option for ENGINE configuration in the '96 BCM if the EEPROM wasn't erased I don't think it's required.
The original key works, but the milage went to zero.
I do have the factory service manuals, 2 in the set.
The BCM (CCM) was said to be the reason for the ratcheting by Corvette Paramedics in New Jersey. While Corvette Paramedics was in the process of diagnosing the ratcheting problem they told me that the car starting having cut off problems, I never had any of the additional symtoms that they said the car displayed. They said that all of the symtoms was because the BCM.
They said that they could not find anybody to rebuild the BCM.
Wow, and they actually call themselves "Corvette Paramedics"?!?!?
You may want to suggest to them if they are going to work on Corvettes, they should subscribe to the forum. There are quite a few places that repair Vette control modules such as the ECM and CCM.
