Default Tech 1 Programmer & Programming Cartridge

I have a 1996 Corvette with the LT4 engine with 6speed trans.
Had the Body Control Module (BCM) rebuilt because it died but the vendor could not reprogram it. I was told that I need the Tech 1 programmer & the programming cartridge to reprogram it. I don't know
where to get those tools because they are outdated and no longer being used by GM.The car is drivable but some things no longer work such as the cruise control, the PKE System, and my alarm system. What can be done to make my car fully functional again ?

I could be wrong, but I believe you will need a Tech 2 which was introduced by GM at the same time the OBD II interface came out, at least on Corvettes. 1996 was the first year for the true OBD II, even though the 95 and 94(?) had the plug.

Here is an interesting link I found

http://www.obd2tool.com/goods-1568-G...ZUHolden).html

plus there are LOTS on eBay.

the problem is will they work and not fry the car ? the cheap ones are Chinese clones. you can see the big difference in the used actual GM Tech 2's -vs- the new clones in price. also there were warnings about the clones (maybe a smoke screen to protect a market) posted by GM.

These diagnostic tools are bi-directional, meaning they read and also can update, set software reset switches, flash code, etc.

Maybe one of the board members has purchased a clone and can recommend a good one, or lives close to you and has an actual GM version.

There are other bi-directional diagnostic tools on the market, but all are reasonably expensive. (at least they were when I was researching what to buy to monitor all the components of the diesel engine and trans in my 2500HD)

I you're mileage is correct then they either swapped or reprogrammed. Also the prom needs to match the key code of your key or the car wouldn't start at all.

After the rebuild was done to the BCM the odometer read zero.
The car starts with the same key.
