Hi guys, I'm relatively new to the world of corvettes, and i'm considering buying another C4 (I had a 1986 convertible indy pace car but i sold it).. a few questions. When did they go to the updated interior? '92? What sort of common problems are normally found on vette's w/ over 100k on them? Things like suspension bushings and the like i'm guessing. Any comments on this subject would help me greatly..
Oh.. half the reason i sold the '86 was that the instrument panel kept blacking out and the ABS system would die for no reason.. sold it before I really knew anything about cars and how to fix regular stuff like that..
LT1/LT4's with high miles need a look at the water pump & optispark (distributer). if the pump's wearing out it'll start dripping out the weep hole right on top of the opti. this'll ruin the expensive opti. you can look at it with an inspection mirror.

Re: Corvette Newbie (evilpsych)
Hey, yer just down the road a bit from me. They updated the dash in '90. As for problems that happen at 100k...Im at that point now and finding out too. So far since I got my '91: alternator (day I bought it), dual mass flywheel, clutch, ZF trannie (covered by extended warranty THANK GAWD!), plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, hatchback shocks, will replace the worn Bilsteins shortly. Ive got numerous miscellaneous ghost electrical problems...nothing major just minor irritating stuff. The Bose is broke about half the time and the trannie is still too damned noisy but she runs like a bat outta hell and I love her. Im fighting a weird rough idle problem right now but other than those minor and expected issues on an 11 yr old car shes AWESOME! Be sure and let us know what you get and welcome to the Forum
We have an 86 that has the regular problems, headlights, dash etc. And it is no different from most years with their gremlins. It has the Z51 suspension and drives very nice. As with my other vettes, I have upgraded and updated items on it to make them more reliable.
