I just purchased a 1993 C4. It has the FX3 system. The Select Ride Service light does not illuminate on turning on key. The module appears to be plugged in and the shocks appear to be good. Pressing down on car the shocks are very stiff and the ride is very hard in all three positions on the ride select and no apparent change. Before spending a lot at a dealership has anyone had this problem or any suggestions. Any help would be appreciated.

Congrats and welcome to the forum!

My guess is that the previous owner popped the bulb out of the Drivers Information Center for the selective ride system as they were having problems with the FX3 and just didn't want to deal with it.

While a cool system, the FX3 is know to frustrate owners to the point of madness. Plus, parts are on the expense side and may owner say "F it" and pop the bulb out.

Just a guess if you can't get the light on when turning the key.

You would know if FX3 was working, sounds like your stuck in 'performance mode'. If you plan on keeping the car for a spell, FX3 is really a nice feature to have working.

If you check the information on the service parts identification card posted on the inside of the console does it also have a "ZO7" code in addition to the FX3 code? If so the car will ride "stiff" even in the tour setting. I have the ZO7 option and love it but it does ride very stiff. This is why GM required a managers signoff on all cars purchased with the ZO7 option to make sure the customer knew how stiff the ride was going to be. These were meant for the track and will do whatever you ask on the track. The true "stiffness" is very hard to discern among the three settings unless you are pushing it hard. On the track the performance setting will give newer Vettes a run for the money. ZO7 also gave you larger sway bars, bigger brakes, and different bushing material.
Then again there could just be a problem with the FX3 system.

Common problem. It's called PO. Previous Owner. If it was legal, I'd drag the C4's PO behind the car at 5 mph.

Only way to know is if you can scan it or something. Check the system and the bulb.
