I recently had the radiator of my 1996 C 4 flushed and new fluids added. I read somewhere that GM engines should have some sort of additive to prevent leakage. I checked my reservoir last night and it was low. I had the work done about three months ago and it may be low as the engine probably had to "burp". My question: What additive should be included, if any?
I believe Chevy sells a sealer over the counter. I don't know if its the same as added at the factory. Ask the counter man or someone may chime in here.
GM used to install "sealer pellets" as part of a cooling system service done at dealerships or they sold them over the parts counter. They came packaged in a blister pack of 6 pellets.
Some years ago, GM issued a TSB telling service departments to stop using the pellets as they could cause clogging up of the tubes in radiators. Don't know if they are still available from GM parts departments. but personally, I would not use them. If there is any leakage from the cooling system, the leak should be fixed properly.
I have flushed the radiators for my Z28, 92, 95, 04 and The Ghost. Never added snake oil to it. Ensure you NEVER mix the green coolant with the orange coolant and you will be fine.
50/50 mix is good for all states unless you live in SoCal. I do 70/30 here.
