I might be moving to Denver so naturally I am worried about the vette. Do they sale the roads out there? How often does it snow? What months do you store it? Lastly, does the high altitude degrade performance?
I moved from Denver 4 years ago. Yes higher altitude will hurt performance, but it affects all normally aspriated motors the same. I drove my Vette all year around for the four years I lived there, no harm done. If I remember correctly, they used mostly sand and very small gravel instead of salt. There was a drive through brushless car wash near my home, I used it to keep the crap from building up under the Vette. I don't think that you will have any problems.
But, I like Arizona winters a whole bunch better :D
I live in CO. I won't even drive my vette in the winter. The state and the cities around the state put magnesium chloride on the roads to melt the snow. This stuff will take chrome plating off!!!. Never mind what it does to the landscape. It is a desicant. So the trees along the roads are strting to die. The mayor of Denver said " It's just a harmless chemical we use to make the roads safer. It turns you car black, it turns you headlights black, it turns your windshield black, etc. Do I need to go on? :U I usually put mine in the garage for the winter. Even though the altitude does degrade performance, you'll still have the fastest car, because it degrades everyones.
I have had my Vette 3 years and have never completely garaged it the whole winter. We have enough nice days during the winter (knock on wood) that there are plenty of opportunites to drive it.
Red Hot is correct - the magnesium chloride does as much if not more damage to your car than salt. If you're planning on moving, make sure you have a "winter" car :yesnod:
Thank you all. I do have a winter car (sort of.) The vette will be geraged in the winter. How long does it take for that crap to wash off the roads? Do you you wait for it to rain a few times?
