1996 Coupe. I guess this may be a stupid question, but here goes. Is there backlighting on the trip monitor/DIC keypad, electronic climate control center and shift indicator? My outside temp display works in all functions; fan speed, temp setting and outside temp didplay. My funtion or position setting on climate control works for each setting. All funtion buttons on climate control and trip monitor key pad work as they should. All other backlighting; lights that come on with headlight switch are working.
It sounds like you are saying that your entire center console has no backlighting. Is this correct? The radio, HVAC and shifter should have backlighting which can be adjusted at the same time with the other dash lighting: use the small lever next to the headlight switch.
Regarding the DIC, there is no backlighting --- each individual light indicates a different function and either the light is on, off, or flashing.
Yes, all buttons have back lighting. Manual has no light so I assume you're referring to an Automatic shift (or gear) indicator which should as well. I assume you've checked your fuse panel?
Do you have the stock radio or aftermarket...if the latter is true then that would lead me to believe that someone messed up wiring when installing.
I have an aftermarket radio, which lights up. I know that the DIC has individual lights for Service engine, PKE, ASR, etc, etc. I am referring to the key pad; Gauges, fuel, trip/odo etc, etc. And yes I have an automatic tranny.....
Yes, all have back lights, this is from my 96...I would suspect the after market stereo is causing the problem. There might be a fuse too, but I don't recall.
I have checked all of the fuses and they are good, not sure where to go from here. The PO said that he radio was not spliced in but used one of those direct connect connectors. I don't know because I have not had the radio out. I had the climate control head out to do the button clean up, ( worked like a champ ). So......

So you don't have the DIC (key-pad) backlite, you don't have the C68(backlite) as shown in the snapshot. Do you have backlite in the balance of the switches in the window switches etc? I'm guessing not.
Sounds as if maybe the INCANDESCENT LAMP DRIVER is maybe failed.
Do you have the FSM? If you do see 8A-117 for wiring and diagnostics.

All other back lighting is working, everything in the gauge cluster, headlight, mirror adjust, window switches, center console light, lights at door handles, both sides are all working. I do have a FSM. Not sure what the Incandescent Lamp Driver is.......

I would doubt the DRIVER then but with the FSM 8A-117 should get you headed towards a solution. Not knowing how the PO accomplished the radio swap is going to need to be addressed I'd guess to accomplish a fix.
Maybe the PO has an invoice for the "direct connect" adapter/harness used which could maybe help. If the PO does, mention the radio and the adapter/harness by part# in a post and maybe others have used similar.
Mention the radio model # anyway and someone with the same might recall just what they did for an install.
***Also look at 8A-150-1 for whatever radio was in the car originally. I'd think you pay attention to gry, gr/blk & ppl/wht in that diagram for all lighting references. I doubt a fix is difficult.
Thanks for that and for info on the PDF. I will pull out radio and see what kind of mess I may have been stuck with. The radio is a pioneer, cannot recall model and am at work. I think it came from Zip. I would love to have a factory radio, but $400 is not something I want to let go of.
It's pretty easy to pull the stereo out, you're going have to do that anyways to work on the problem. I would start there and see if anything crops up. Over the years a lot of electrical problems seem to start with poorly installed aftermarket stereos, get the feeling that is the case here.
So on a 94 there should be a light for the shift indicator on an auto? Aftermarket radio installed on mine from PO also. I need to check my keypad as I never even noticed if that illuminates.

Yes, the auto shift indicator should light up. There is a regular little light bulb under the shift console so if that is the only thing not lit up it could just be the bulb.
I have already had that console apart during the restoration and don't remember seeing a bulb, but does not mean it is not there. I have noticed a couple loose wires hanging around the center console unit. This poor car was a mess.
To update this post: I installed a factory system, I love it by the way, sounds way better;
Now all my interior lights work like they should. I did not do anything to wiring harness but remove aftermarket radio and any wiring connected to it.. I got a factory harness with the factory Bose Gold system. The factory plug in for the radio was still in the dash. I plugged it in, had to put speaker wiring back to factory and now all interior lights work....... there is a place for two bulbs on the auto shift indicator, mine only has one bulb hard wired....... I have not looked or attempted to put the second back........ regardless, all interior lights work.......
amps in the speaker assembly, but bypassed them and wired new speakers.......
In a somewhat related thread that I posted https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...pke-again.html
I have not had very good response.........
