1985 C4. When accelerating fast from a dead stop, there is a slight clunk. It sounds like it's the driver's side rear wheel area. When starting out slow, it is not heard. Any ideas?
Thank you for the response. I am bringing the car next week to a friend's garage for a free check up. I am lately thinking it must be the U joints on the driver's side half shaft. (I am quoted from another garage 5.5 hrs to change one side) A good reason to buy a couple of wheel chocks, a large vice, and make it a winter project.
By watching on Youtube, the job looks difficult, but not impossible to do in your home garage.
as odd as it may sound, check the spare tire carrier - - - I'd been hearing an odd noise from mine and just this past I happened to be changing a rear light bulb and realized that the carrier was loose. The donut tire must have shifted a bit and that allowed a bit of slop in the whole set up . . .
Check the exhaust too. Possibly pipes or mufflers hitting the body during acceleration. I've pulled axleshafts and changed ujoints many times in my garage. Not that hard to do. It takes a little time.
