I have been experiencing an occasional vibration that seems to be coming from the front end of my 93 vette, it makes the steering wheel shake as if it need balancing but since I had this done 2 weeks ago I have ruled out this problem, could it stem from a shock, bearings needing repacked , tie rod end, or ball joint. I am seeking any advice before I take it to the shop.
wheels a think could be warped but I watched them get balanced and they seemed okay, as i said this only happens once in a while, so i am stumped at the problem.
thanks for any help!!!!!
On one of ours cars, the steering wheel would shake back and forth at a certain speed. In that case it turned out to be a "bubble" on one of the front tires. The rubber had separeted from the casing, but you wouldn't notice it except at a certain speed.
Jack up car and place on jackstands. Grab wheel at 6 and 12 positions. Try to move tire in and out. Any movement means front wheel bearings. Sealed units not repairable for us. Grab at 3 and 9 o'clock and this will check for suspension problems (tie rods, ball joints) can narrow other down. Place fulcrum under wheel and attempt to pick up car from floor. If tire moves up and down then it is ball joint. Was wheel balance done for high speed usage? What speed is the harmonic?? Same gear, same road surface?
