Let the other generation forums discuss this according to how they view the Corvette world.

http://www.foxnews.com/auto/2017/10/...odel-year.html

It will be interesting to see what the deal actually is. It used to be that a young guy could sacrifice and buy a Corvette, but the are more and more turning the performers into a car for the rich.

I did notice that when we went to Carlisle this year, that there were an awful lot of younger folks from the East Coast driving new Vettes, in contrast to my area where it is the older folks that have them.

xxx---xxx---xxx---xxx

My belief is that as Chevrolet/GM keeps increasing the price of Vettes, and as electronic/costly maintenance issues increasingly escalate to keep the later (C5+) gens on the road, C4's could become increasingly desirable MAYBE but MAYBE NOT

as folks are discussing in the thread about Getting Increased Respect that is currently being discussed.

HERE is the MAYBE NOT.

http://www.corvetteonline.com/news/n...-for-corvette/

just as there was a paradigm shift in the computing world with the availability of cheap PC's and Web apps, we could see a real shift real quick once it starts happening. BIG brother could pile on a bunch of taxes to try and force folks off internal combustion engines.

but that in itself has other issues as they got to figure out how to tax electrons to pay for the roads. states keep trying to implement greater annual licensing fees to try and overcome the deficit of taxes collected due to great MPG fleet averages

So who knows. Enjoy them while you got them :-)

They're building a paint shop that can do pearlescent paints, vs having to use weord and expensive tintcoats. This requires rearranging the process flows, and replacing half the colors.

Don't underestimate the impact of rearranging your flows. These are foxed in place lines with large amounts of equipment to be moved, replaced, requalified, etc.

People get so spun up about stuff like this because they don't understand the amount of work involved in something like this, and so they go all crazy and think it's the end of the world.

The reason this car survived is that it TOOK back it's place in performance. The C5 was a performance car not just a sports car IMO, especially the z06 at the time. I think the C5 opened the door to the younger generation's interest much more. Computers, amazing motors, decent price, awesome handling, and you could go around knowing you can almost handle a 250k car with your gm.

It was the older guys wanting to look cool and wealthy, but not really wanting a harsh ride and all things that at the time performance offered. Either one or the other. (they should have bought camaros) during the c4 era.

I would think Youtube is a major contributing factor to their continued success at this point. It is great advertisement, and it it showed everybody how many people out there can and or will afford something just to show off. This is what keeps the rich kids involved in vettes.

Performance is a standard now, if they want to compete with Ferrari etc they will and it costs more to do it, BUT when they tap that market it opens a HUGE door of opportunity.

The government deal is a whole different story and more than likely if there is money to be made they will take it.

NOW on that note. Look at eh youtube Ad scandal. YT is taking the blame, but really it is advertisers(1%ers) that pulled the plug and have the power. IT WORKED!! They know the little idiots will send money out of their own pockets and people are doing it using PATREON.

People give to charities uninformed, people give to police station even though they pay taxes for that stuff, people pay!!!

People who bought stick shift cars in the last couple years paid a tax on having stick.

It will happen, because we will let them.

Can we vote on these issues?
Can we vote on what is "safe" for us since they seem to care so much for us?

I agree. When I was younger I was a toolmaker. I built stamping dies, progressive dies, plastic molds, rubber molds, this that and therefore. It takes time and manpower to take stuff apart and put it together. It takes a lot of lead time for an automotive (or other machinery line). I was working on the prototypes from what you saw in the Gulf Wars in the late 70's early 80's as well as other stuff. It was years in development before any metal is cut.

But GM is GM and GM will do what they want. They have cut off their nose to spite their face before, and will eventually do it again. So we will see what shakes loose.

Well it is good they are having a 2018 production run rather than none at all like in 1983!
