This is probably a dumb question but im new vette world. I was told theres no such thing as a 1983 corvette. I bought one from Texas and got it home. The door panel says 08/83 abd the title says 1983 is it just the third quarter of 83 that would make it a 84. Sorry for the dumb question but just curious.
I would say its an 84, but its interesting that the title says 1983..... Mine is an 86 and my door sticker says 10/85. My title does say 1986 though...
Welcome to the world of C4 Corvettes. This is a great forum full of knowledge.
He says the title reads 83.... technically, that makes it an 83.... I know theres no registered 83 C4's, but his is registered as an 83 if the title is 83. (from what he says)

Yes I agree that he says the title shows 83. This Vin chart shows the 10th letter of E is for 1984 model year which is in his vin. Below is from the link in my previous post. This is very interesting that his title shows 83. My 86 has an August 1985 build date.
The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) decodes as follows for the C4 Corvette:
Model Year Chart
Designator Model Year E 1984
F 1985
G 1986
H 1987
J 1988
K 1989
L 1990
M 1991
N 1992
P 1993
R 1994
S 1995
T 1996
It's interesting that the VIN shows 3 mileage records recorded which are generally done by DMV and the year wasn't correctly recorded. There seems to have likely been 3 DMVs involved so I think I'd need to see this to believe this. Ironically 2 of the three are by states that aren't participants of NMVTIS but do provide data.
OP - what state was the title of the car recorded in when you purchased?
Bought in Texas doesn't mean Texas title. You're titling it where? It would be interesting to see the title you have now (if the purchase title) and how your DMV records the transaction.
It's a title mistake. GM did build a very small number of '83 corvettes but none were sold to the public and they were destroyed after the '84 started production.

There were 40-some 1983 cars built for testing. Of those, there is one 1983 left and it's on display in the National Corvette Museum.
As far as the OP's title, that date entry was probably a mistake by the DMV that originally issued the title. I don't think that any DMV would know what the production date was outside of what is shown on the door sticker. The 10th digit (letter E) on the VIN is what identifies the model year. You may want to contact your DMV and see if the correct date can be placed on the title.
