Just inquired today (someone I personally know), has this doctor friend who's getting up in age that owns a 97 red hardtop convertible with like 20,000 miles. Perfect condition. Going to find out if he's willing to sell. Looking at about $12k. Will see ~later.
Well until the doctor says he is willing to sell said C5 for $12K, really nothing to hate LOL especially since the C5 convertible didn't come out until the 1998 model year
$12 thou is pretty low. You might be overly optimistic. Nice early model C5's can go near 20 if the mileage is low and options are right. Verts usually go for a bit more. Anything in the low teens seems to be sub parin some way.
I think 12k is really low balling for the described car. my friend just bought a 02 coupe with 14k miles in mint condition for 21k and I think he got a fair deal. don't know how much less a 97 is worth though.

Heck, maybe it's a 98? Heck, maybe first I'll find out if the man is going to sell?

Yet you same people claim to purchase low mileage mint C4's for $5k.
A lot of good stuff about the c5, no reason to really hate anyone for their preference. Personally, the only two generations of corvette I REALLY like are the c5 and the c4.
Good luck, I really don't think 12k is too terribly low of a price for a 97. Early c5's (97-00) do have several key drawbacks such as the EBCM which isn't made, and isn't able to be repaired, the SWPS which is very expensive even used, and most importantly for 97-99 cars, the hideous wagon wheels

If the guy just wants to get rid of it, an easy sale, I won't go much over 12k. Otherwise I'll just keep the 92 as everything works, loaded along with FX3, sport seats, performance axle and has under 60,000 mile on her.

So basically, you'd like to take advantage of an old person who doesn't know what their car is worth? That's mighty fine of you...
They'd get more than $12k by taking that car to CarMax.

Not to stir a pot or flame.....but.....I beg to differ on the Carmax part of this statement. I have purchased several cars from them and also attempted to trade and they have always been on the very low side on their offers. I would expect them to offer less than $10k for a 20 year old car. They won't put it on the lot and will end up shipping it to auction anyway.
