Here in WV we have Regular (low grade), Premium (middle grade) and Supreme (high grade). I only use supreme! I'm thinking your meaning premium is supreme right?!
Premium only. The ONLY time I made an exceptionnn was when I was on reserve and the gas station was out. I put in $5.00 unlead plus and drove to the next closest station and filled up with premium. :yesnod:
[QUOTE]My question is, with the price of gas like it is,/QUOTE]
Let's do the math. 6,000 a year (I put on the car) divided by 20 m.p.g (mostly highway at 26 MPG) times 20 cents a gal. (difference between regular and premium) equals $60 a year. I stick with premium.
I used regular one time and lets just say the vette and I were not talking. (I was sleeping on the "couch") So later that week i went back to premium and been doing it ever since.
i use premium in the car, truck, boat, lawn mower, every gas engine i have. the money you save on the cheap gas you spend on tune ups and other repairs. the premium fuel has a cleaner burn and leaves less residue behing. over time that residud builds up in your engine causeing all sorts of problems. if you can afford the good gas use it.
well, as an employee of a MAJOR oil company I can say that you are not completely correct. If the engine doesn't NEED the octane (because of high compression ratios or high operating temps) the premium gas can actually hurt the power output. The only thing octane does is reduce detonation, because it is less "volatile" than lower octane fuel. For lawn mowers, low performance engines, etc this can result in lower power output. Nowadays all grades of gasolines from the major oil companies (Shell, Chevron/Texaco, Exxon/Mobil) have the same cleanliness additives and will not trash your engine/fuel system. If your vehicle doesn't need the high octane stuff save your money and buy a quality low octane fuel.
If you use cheap grocery store gas it doesn't matter what octane level you buy, you are trashing your fuel system. Period.
