process for changing check engine light

What is the step by step process to change a check engine light on a 96 LT4? The light does not illuminate when I do a required bulb check to pass emissions in Wisconsin.

So you assume that it's been removed by a PO or just burned out I guess. Being a '96 and OBD2 I imagine you've had an easy to use scanner on it and confirmed operation of the system? Is that the only light that doesn't function with the KEY-ON BULB CHECK?

Is there any other obvious problems with instrument panel?

Check the GAUGES fuse first - I believe the MIL/SES is powered by that fuse.

Unless you know WHY it could be a wasted effort!!

Being a "NEW" poster has it ever worked? Is the car new to you?
