It is the amount of salt and other anti-icing compounds that are put on the roads in Ohio that causes people to put their cars away. I don't even drive my pickup in the winter. It is the only way to make vehicles last. 10 years old is an old vehicle here.
Even if there is no snow in the forecast, anti-icing stuff is put on the roads because of condensation. They use beet juice, salt, calcium chloride etc. There is a mammoth salt mine underneath Lake Erie where a lot of the salt comes from.
In CT aswell, my 89 is tucked away, too bad it's not heated!
SE CT here 500 ft from the water and 5 miles from RI. We have a foot or maybe a bit more. '91 is in the shop here with radiant heat floors so all the machinery in the shop is warm too. 6 inches of concrete at 70 degrees or more at times. Mine did spend a couple of winters outside as I had race cars in the shop and has caused a small paint repair to fail..sigh something else to do this spring I guess.
Sorry about the snow OP. I live in Canada so snow is usually just part of winter, we just had an ice storm here recently. Thankfully my C4 is safely inside my workshop.
We are just a little bit outside myrtle beach. We got very little snow. Mostly ice and sleet. But, since we are ill equipped here for any of it, the long cold streak, yes it's been several days of below freezing weather here in the balmy south, is playing havoc with roads.

The folks in Erie Pa all think folks that are whining about a dusting are a bunch of pansies considering the amount that they have gotten since the day before Christmas.
We didn't get hit with Lake effect this year, but there has been times we will get 18 to 24 in overnight. The most that I can remember we have gotten is about 36" overnight. I was laying underneath a 69 SS 396 pos Chevelle that filled the block full of gas and wouldn't start. I stuck the battery in my 69 383 Roadrunner that didn't even have a choke and it fired right up so I could go to work.
Notice I said go to work. They shop I worked at required you to be there.
The drifts were up over the telephone lines. They brought in front loaders and 18 wheel dump trucks as the road I worked on also had the Nat'l Guard armory on it and had to stay clear. It was like driving through a 2 lane canyon.
This was back a bunch of years ago. It all depends on the wind direction as to who gets the snow off Lake Erie. One side of Cleveland Oh will get buried and the other will have none.
My daughter was whining because it was 20 something in San Antonio Tx the other morning. She has become Southernized.
However, I will admit, that I cannot take the temps and humidity level folks down south survive in. We drove through Winston-Salem once on the way home from the Outer Banks and the temp was 102 with high humidity. I had to get out of the truck (we pull a travel trailer) and I felt crushed. My lungs felt like they were working on diminished capacity.
So it is all a matter of perspective. As much as we rag on folks that don't experience the cold and snow, it is really an issue for them. They don't have the tools, the experience of driving in the snow and for most of them, the correct clothes. And maybe don't even have a snow shovel.
I have a couple acquaintances that have never seen a snowblower.
We got 25" of snow in less than 3 days where I work. At my house I got about 1/3 of that. I am only 14 miles from my work. This is all due to Lake effect snow coming off of Lake Michigan. Normally my house is inline with where the lake effect snow comes down, but this time the band setup further to the west.
At the moment my 91 vette and my 98 camaro are out side with about 12+" on their roofs. The vette has a cover and a tarp over it. My 76 vette stays in the garage so it only "sees" snow when the garage door is open.
