My air conditioning condenser failed and is leaking. Could anyone help me in deciding what I must also order before the installation of a new one? I also need help on where a good place to order the necessary parts. I have a 1993 coupe. Thank you for all your help. Mike
Why would you need anything besides a new condenser ?
Obviously you need refrigerant and the orings at the condenser connections but that kind of goes without saying.
'93 is still an R12 system so maybe much depends upon if a conversion was ever done to R134a or maybe even something else. If still an R12 your decision to do a conversion matters also.
Are you going to attempt a DIY or a 'for hire' replacement?
There's actually quite a bit to consider down to an including, how long has the system been open(leaking).
Where to buy? Much depends on your location and if it's to be a DIY or 'for hire'.
Thank you all for the good information. The system has been upgraded and changed. I have a mechanic friend who restores cars and he is going to do the work. It is kind of hard to worry about air conditioning this time of year! But this is Alabama and the hot summer will be here before one knows it! Again, thank you for the information.
I'd think you have the friend do a complete evaluation and you discuss with him what he'd like for parts. Has the leak been confirmed to be the condenser and maybe just not a conversion fitting or something related to the conversion.

The A/C system also works to remove excess humidity in the car. Turn on the windshield defroster and the A/C system will operate.
If your mechanic friend is going to do the repairs, why not let him select all of the needed components? He can buy them and charge you for the parts or he can give you a list and you buy the parts. For a good source, try Rockauto.
