Anyone ever tried this uxcell Opti replacement?
While browsing Amazon, I came upon this Opti replacement... seems awful inexpensive based upon past research. I don't need one right now but at this price it seemed too good to be true. Has anyone ever tried this brand?

Interesting.
I have never seen that that low price before. I also looked at a few others there and found several for $44.
At that price it is almost the same cost as a cap and rotor.
I would also like to know if anyone has used one of the cheap opti's.

Haven't used the uxcell, got my opti from summit here. Didn't come with the harness, though it's warrantied for a year. I haven't had bad service from Summit before, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Cheap compared to some of the other "better" opti's out there. If Uxcell turns out to be good though, then I might consider getting the next one from them.

You have a death wish if you buy that and put that in.
this part will literally kill you when it breaks you down on a busy highway - with everyone texting, and not paying attention.
im assuming the thread is a joke as there hundreds of threads that all conclude:
do not use any optispark that doesnt include an oem mitsubishi sensor.

The uxcell might be a good host for your old OEM sensor. New cap, rotor and bearing takes care of the wear items. It's a good idea to replace the vent lines and their restrictor/filter components as well.

The funny thing is that there are a bunch of inexpensive opti's out there. You'd think if they were all complete junk as people say, they'd either be out of business or every review would be one star.
This does beg the question, if we can't get the exact bearing anymore to rebuild our stockers, what bearings are in all the new opti's? I bought the one shoulder bearing and it didn't matter which direction I installed it, there was still a little wiggle in the shaft.

used ones, post an ad in the parts wanted/for sale section.
keep checking ebay, every once in awhile youll find an old man selling a spare nos one in a tattered old box.
the kicker if its a real deal nos oem unit youll have to pay $400-600 for it - which was what you would have paid for it 20 yrs ago.
id rather have a used oem one out of a wrecked junkyard car vs. that POS.
remember the corvette wasnt the only car that used optispark.
also, convert to vented gen 2 while you are at it if you cant find a gen1. Throw in a new cam and hd timing chain while at it

its gotten so bad, that i dont even feel
safe driving my 93 corvette.
i had a heroin overdosing driver come left of center at me and crash off the other side of the road 2 years ago.
people tailgate, people get pissed off that the car in the fast lane is only doing 10 over the speed limit so they try to weave in and out to get around it
everyone is so focused on their cell
phones.
I am constantly having cars come over the double yellow line at me only to re adjust at the last second (they are texting on their phones)
Ive reverted to buying as big
a vehicle as possible because i want the idiot that comes left of center to kill themselves and not me, if a hit occurs.
i read constantly about stopped vehicles on the side of highway getting hit / people killed in my area.
this is how you would get killed if that part broke you down.
People would rather get that text out, or OD on heroin, vs stay in their lane (and out of the highway breakdown lane)

From reading optisprk threads on here....
it seems like the problem is the non mitsubishi sensors dont hold up as well - to the operating environment.
i believe heat is what kills them.
my corvette used to run at 215-220F
i reprogrammed fans and put in 160 tstat and it runs 170-175F.

The cheap Chinese opti had bad solder joints on disassembly. Did you read that one? Re-solder and go.
I have yet to read of a Petris unit failing prematurely (less than 100K miles). That's what I put in my '96. I'll keep you posted if it kills me.
I put an AIP in the '95. Works like a charm.
If you find and rebuild an OEM it will fail too. It may last longer, it may not. But it will most certainly fail. It's full of wear items.

As I said; I've used two "cheapies" so far. I'm still alive. How do you explain that?
An OEM opti is going to fail eventually too, you know. What then? Are you "dead"?

Be that as it may, making the statement that using a cheap option will kill you is in the realm of absurd. You lose credibility when you make a ridiculous statement like that.

your non oem one (without mitsubishi sensor) is working great, then great. what is your secret?
ive suggested dropping underhood temps (reprogramming fans, 160 tstat, water wetter additive, etc).

So the take away here is that we are all going to die from a failed non-OEM Optispark. Except, of course, those of us with the OEM ACDelco Vented Optispark because it will never fail and kill you.
I think someone needs to straighten his foil hat and get back to the bomb shelter. Fast.
