Working on a friends car, battery keeps dying. I haven't done a test to see what the drain is but just sitting in the car with doors closed and no key I hear a faint ding from the dash. Same sound I would assume heard when a key is left in and the door is open. I noticed somebody changed the ignition lock recently because its a hideous chrome eyesore. Could this be the culprit? What might I find missing that Ill have to purchase?
I've been doing some research, may be hard to come by the switch with all the correct pieces. Is there some kind of wire I can remove to fool the switch first?
Yeah they probably installed the Key Detect switch wrong in the column. That might be a good place to start looking
Or they mangled it when they pulled the cylinder out.
Your supposed to insert the key, then turn the cylinder forward, then pull the buzzer switch out.
If it was theft recovery or some other reason why the key was not available at the time the cylinder was first removed then that would explain things.
