The change oil light came on so I have to do this asap. I have access to
a lift (which I've never used before), and need to know if I need to jack the car up first before using the lift. This question might seem silly, but I don't know if I would risk damage to the ground effects by not jacking it up first. Do I use 2 jacks? Anyone have experience with this?
Re: Ground effects and jacking the car (bradvette)
George Crouse has ground effects, and a very low jack, thats the easiest way to do it, I don't know where he got the jack though. :(
You should be able to get the spare tire jack under the car, just to get the car high enough to get a real jack under it.
And lastly, since my car is lowered(no ground effects), I have to drive up on bricks. You could go to Home Depot, or Lowe's, or some other hardware shop and make a set of ramps out of three 2x6's. The bottom piece should be about four feet long, the second one should be about three feet long, and the top one should be two feet long. Make a ramp out of this, the car will have no problem driving up the 2 inches, at least I don't think so. Make sure that the ground effects don't hit though.
Re: Ground effects and jacking the car (NoWorries)
A freind of mine had an 87 with ground effects and there was only one way to get it in the air .........I used a regular floor jack under the lower shock bolt n the rear and lifted it until the rear (left rear) tire was clear and up high enough to sorta get under the car......... jackstand and relocayion of the jack to the left rear jacking spot got it the rest of the way. I have three lifts here at work and none were of any use to us. the only other way to get under this car that I was able to use to change his antenna was to put it on my alignment rack and put the alignment jack under the car. Trouble is ........ how many of us have alignment racks and also how many would allow an oil change on them ..........just some food for thought :seeya
Re: Ground effects and jacking the car (bradvette)
I have the same problem here with jacking up the car.
My solution, buy 2 wooden planks about 1 ft x 3 ft x ~1 1/2 in. Place one on top of the other one like a small letter t. Drive the car up the "ramp" until it's high enough to fit a floor jack underneath it (preferably 1 3/4 ton or more). Place jack stands underneath, just in case.

I was thinking about lowering my car about an inch on both ends and was worried about this problem. Do the corvette ramps work really well in this situation?
