What I like most about the C4

It could cost three times as much, and that wouldn't change any of those things! I'd add: the stance, the cockpit, the feel of just sitting in it, the enjoyment I get by waxing those sleek body contours . . . and the good friends I've made!

Have a guy here at work with a 2016 5.0 Mustang. Metallic charcoal gray, fat black wheels, lowered, killer exhaust. Admittedly, a really nice car.
He was giving me smack in the lunch room about how his 'stang would kill my '96 Corvette. He says, "It's faster, quicker, handles better. It would kick your cars butt."
I packed up my empty lunch bag, got up, looked at him and said, "All very true....but it's not a Corvette." The table behind him had quite a few chuckles.

Bang for the buck. A few years back I had a Polo Green '95. Then I sold that & went for a '99 white coupe. Sold that when the daughter went to college and the house needed a roof at the same time. Fast forward 7-8 years I decided to look for another one (I didn't suffer - I went through a Miata, SLK, '10 Camaro and now have a Mustang GT & Focus ST). Between a C4, C5, and C6, the C4 (IMO) had the most bang for the money. Picked up a '93 coupe, 41k miles, for $10k even. Had to spend some time with the porter cable for the paint (California Dusters should be outlawed!), replaced the headlight gears, replaced the lumbar bladders & motors, and dyed a small worn section on the drivers seat.
I've had a blast driving it so far. It's in good enough shape that with a little more work I think she'd do OK in some shows.
I've looked at the C5/C6's and to get a really nice one you're looking at $18-$30k Too much to spend on a toy right now. $10k (with about $500 invested) was a perfect price point for me.

May I quote Nuccio Bertone (of Countach fame) on the C4 design:
(AutoWeek, August 4, 1986)
"Overall, the car's architecture is the best I can think of for a front-engined sports car. The long hood is enhanced by the raked windshield, and the passenger compartment has the right proportion and is located in the right place, in the center of the car. With the cut-off tail, the overall volume of the body is really well balanced. It looks both virile and agile, like a classic Greek athlete"

I bet that " turd " as you say will be the one every one will be checking out.
The Countach is somewhat impractical ( look up factory method for backing up ) and to many even "gaudy" but what a presence. Reminds me of the first Viper I checked out in person as I just could not get my eyes off of it.
So this brings me to what I like most about the C4 ; It is what the early Vipers were not as in sophisticated, refined and for the money a car you can feel good about driving. Last year I really considered buying a Viper but after comparing all aspects to my '95 C4 I knew I had the better fit for myself.
Of course 20 years from now The Viper may be worth a heck of a lot more but that is ok as I will have 20 years of great driving memories.

What do I like best? I have one in my driveway. 1995 Polo Green vert. She needs a paint job bad, but I drive her every day I can. I bought her less than a month after my separation from my wife almost seven years ago. My oldest son wasn't 8 months old when the car was built, and he loves the car. I have an 08 coupe in the garage, but prefer to drive the old C4. And literally , after almost seven years, I smile every time I walk to the car to take her for a drive.

I lust over the Countach...and have for 30+ years. It's outrageous, wicked, exotic...it defined "Supercar".

A big leap backward:
Although many preferred the analog (tach, especially), the lag (response) of the D'Arsonval (tach movement) would be quite annoying if not for having installed a shift light. The shift light (at least) takes care of the rpm readout issues at the critical (shift) moment.
(Yeah, yeah, one could allow for the lag...I GET THAT. But, lights ALSO allow one to know when to shift w/o taking eyes of the track! But, I digress...)
The latest trend is a digital display that looks like an analog display (tach...spedo too, for that matter). It has sort of a retro look, except there is no inertia-related lagging!
JMO, agree w/ you: a bar graph display such as the early C4s or like the headsup digital displays on the C7s would be to my liking as well.

That's 1/2 their problem!
The value of the C4 today is astounding. The amount of suspension, power, features, technology, content and style...the amount of CAR you get for the money is unbelievable.
I like the car best though, for the way it drives. Everything about it is "right"; the steering, the throttle response, the clutch, brakes, the "athleticism", the amount of feed back you get....it's all just about perfect. It makes for a fun, interactive experience.

Tom, as he often does, put his finger 'right on it' for me. The C4 just feels so good when behind the wheel. Everything is where it should be, and, and, and.... so on.
Well, as long as this thread has evolved to photos... One of my faves...
Yes, I CAN spell Phoenix, but it was already taken, apparently.

Great sports car driving experience, classic sweeping lines (not the outrageous "look at me" stuff you see nowadays), awesome bang for the buck.
I am not sure about outperforming most modern vehicles. With its low stance and wide tires, the handling of the the C4 is better than most regular cars/sedans/hatchbacks.
But in straight-line performance, not so much:
The 4-cylinder turbo Mustang goes 0-60 in 5.2 seconds (FOUR CYLINDERS)
The V6 Camaro goes 0-60 in 5.3 seconds
Hyundai Genesis V6 goes 0-60 in 5.3 seconds
All these cars have back seats, and none has a V8.

What kind of car? I lived in West Dover for a spell a few years ago.
