You might want to have that MPG GAUGE analyzed, also.

I'm not surprised. Those sensors do a LOT more to our cars than some realize. I had one fail on me and the car was basically undriveable.

An o2 sensor dies slowly dot all at once. At what point in the process will a fault code be set? I suspect mine is on the way out the door but all checks show it to be good.

My most recent one didn't. It was about 2 weeks old. Car made 322rwhp, then 5 minutes later could barely be driven home.

I just had a buddy of mine swap mine out (2 minute job with the car on the lift). I had 104K mile son the original O2 sensor, no codes or problems, but though it'd be only good to replace it.. Notice no difference at all..

Care to go into detail why you decided to swap it out? I've been thinking of switching mine out (at 104k miles), but it's running well right now. Low gas milage though, and I notice a gassy smell.

I heard about all the input on people switching out the O2 sensor and I thought what the heck....I'll do it and it took all of 10 minutes. Also, heard if you are running rich(gassy smell), then your O2 sensor is weak or bad and allowing too much fuel to be mixed and burned. Also, heard if your TB or tailpipes seem to have excessive soot, you may need to replace it. What is bad mileage?

I definitely have a gassy smell. Earlier I was inspecting a bit of smoke from my tailpipe to make sure it was condensation (it was), and the gas smell made my eyes water to the point where I had to take a few seconds to compose myself. That's what I get for sticking my face 3 inches from the pipe.

I did clean my throttle body not too long ago, and of course there was some black gunk in there. But I'm pretty sure it's the only time it's been cleaned in 104k miles, so I wouldn't say it was excessive. As for the exhaust pipes.. they weren't too bad before I replaced them, but I just put a new Power Effects system on.

I'll definitely replace mine soon, but I'm waiting to see if my Check Engine light comes on since I have no cats anymore. If it does I'll go with a heated sensor, and if not I'll replace it with the standard. I'm wondering if, since I had two clogged cats and one completely self-gutted cat, that would have fouled my sensor.

Anyway, glad to see you had success. We'll see how I do.
