Default 86 Pace Car Value

I'm normally in the C2 section, but a friend of mine is looking at a 1986 yellow pace car with the decals in really good condition. I told him I'd make an inquiry on the Forum. Only 34K miles. Now I know there's alot to check out on these cars, but if it were all original and in great shape, what would be a price range? I think he said the guy was looking for 15K. Sounds a little high to me. Any estimates would be appreciated. Thanks!

About twice what I'd think and I own an 86 Pace Car. Assume it's an automatic, nothing special about it. Things like the tires, top, transmission, condition and documentation all come into play here and nothing is noted. Also noted the decals, I'm assuming they're on the car and that kills a lot for me also.

Without more details, you're only going to get general guesses. Sorry.

IIRC, all 1986 convertibles came with a set of Pace Car decals. It was up to the owner to decide if he wanted to install them on the car.

$15K is pretty high of a price unless there was some documentation that the specific car was actually used during the Indy 500 week. Even with that, I would think that $5000 to maybe $7000 would be a reasonable price. Of course, it all comes down to condition, maintenance, and documentation. Other than the decals, it is just another '86 yellow 'vert.

These Pace Cars can bring quite a bit in mint super low mileage condition. I bought/sold (3) of them over the years. Got $26,000 for one that I sold to a guy in Amsterdam Holland 6-7 years ago.

The 20/20s are on the lots now. I was looking for a cheap car on facebook today and C 5 prices have fallen big time.

I think if he can get it for 12-13k that would be a good deal. 15k for it is probably market value. This is only because it is a yellow 86. All the 86 convertibles were considered 'pace cars' but the only ones that a person who considers them worth more want a yellow one because that is what they used in the race. They only built 732 yellow convertibles that year so they are pretty rare.

Have seen that too and If I look at the C4’s here of the forum or on other car websites, only the “normal” priced ones are sold . The rest stays up for sale for ever.....

I haven't found that to be the case. As previously stated, I've owned/sold (3) over the years and got top $$ for all of them and none were Yellow (red/red, white top, black/saddle, saddle top, black/red, black top). All three were immaculate and VERY LOW mileage.
