I want to cut off the egr tube coming off of my exhaust manifold and then patch up the hole. It now has a block off plate on it, but it’s still in my way. This is the part of the manifold that connects to an egr electrical switch and then on to the back of the intake manifold
its cast iron and I don’t know if it can be patched even by professional welder
They can be, but headers are cheap and a big help on these cars.
I actually bought some old TPIS headers for $200 that need recoat (function over form for my car), but work for me. These had tubes, I asked they be cut off and welded, it was done in minutes.

I have removed egr and what’s left on the manifold sticks up right in my way every time I want to work on that side of engine. Right now I am trying to re route my spark plug wires, and the very nice stainless loom wire separator I bought can not be attached to the valve cover because that egr tube is in the way

whish I could find deal on headers. I believe headers are made of aluminum and my manifold is cast iron

FWIW I've had excellent success brazing up old cast iron chevy exhaust manifolds; I'd suggest grinding off the egr tube, tapping the hole for an iron pipe plug, threading the plug into the manifold, brazing it, and then grinding the plug down even with the exhaust manifold. Cheap, easy, any Bubba with an oxy acetylene torch could do it for you.
