Here is an interesting tidbit the Black Book mentions that in 1990 if you ordered the performance axle ratio you also gained an additional 5 hp due to a "less restrictive exhaust system". It does not mention anything at all about what is different within the exhaust system.

The exhaust difference is that the mufflers have both outlets open. On convertibles, the have one side blocked off so that it’s a little quieter, but you loose 5 hp.
