86-91 Catback Question..

Car is an 85. Adding headers and exhaust.
I had a credit with Mr. Bezos, and I purchased this last night for $500.
I figured $500 for any stainless catback is a pretty good deal.
Questions:
1) Anyone have this particular exhaust on an L98? You like it?
2) This exhaust fits an 86. There's a test pipe on mine now, no cat.
Rather than deal with the big 4 bolt flange, it looked like a guy could just come back off the headers into a Y and then band clamp directly to the flange on the catback.. Leaving the entire center of the exhaust easily removable for maintenance.
Is there some reason this won't work or an 86 exhaust won't fit? I looked and looked, and they look the same except for the cat? Did I make a mistake?
3) Do they make a Y just for these cars with headers?
Hooker has this one:

But, again.. It says 86-91?
Anyone have a similar setup? Thoughts? Because if I made a mistake, I have a 30 day window to send it back.

though i would strongly recommend getting an 88-91 starter if you want to get the Hookers on with the 84-87 behemoth starter

They look the same, but it's so hard to judge things like exhaust pipes from pictures.
Thanks for the starter tip too. Didn't realize they were any smaller.
That should help immensely!
Thank you!

The quality is good, but the packaging sucks. (One muffler has a small dent because of this.) It's 406 stainless, so it should last a while.
It terminates in a 3" Ball Flange at the cat end, so you can remove the center of the exhaust easily for service.
The Magnaflow mufflers are straight through design. There are no curly looking pipes to take you from the cat pipes, under the axle, to the mufflers. So, if/when you replace the mufflers, any straight through design of the correct size will bolt right on. No problem. Band clamps are included to attach them. Pipe size is 2.5"
Other questions I have asked in the past are now answered also.
1) Yes, Hooker super comps will fit Vortec heads, but there is some clearancing to do on both sides. Particularly the #5 plug. It WILL take a little effort. I don't think even a short plug will save you from doing a little bit of tweaking on them, anyway.
2) No, there are no shorty plugs for recent heads unless they were specifically made that way. This is because of the ISO and JIS standards for spark plugs.
Ignore what they say in HotRod magazine. The single best way to clearance a header pipe is with about a 6', round, pry bar and the headers bolted to a junk engine, removed from the car. You can just pry them into shape easily this way. If you start banging on them with a socket and a hammer, the pipes rebound when struck and it becomes far more difficult.
