I am taking the trans out of my 89 to replace clutch. The "C" bracket that goes from trans to differential needs to be removed. So my question is how do I get to the nuts on top of the trans? They are 18mm and I can barely see and touch them. There has to be a trick that I am missing. ALso the tourque specs for these when reassembling. I believe the front is 65, and rear is ?? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Jim,
I don't know if the automatic and manual brackets are the same (I think they are). I just did this on my car a few weeks ago. I was able to hold an open end wrench on the nuts while loosening the bolts from the bottom with a large ratchet. When I got them out, I put a thin layer of anti-seize on the shank of the bolt to keep it from corroding into the aluminum. I don't have the torque values in front of me, but I'm sure someone will chime in. If not, I can get the later.
You just have to find a way to reach on top and hold a wrench on the nuts while you use your other hand (with a rachet) to undo the bolts from below. That's all there was to it on my 88' it was a bit tricky but doable with some fiddling. Good luck!
Got both sets off and drive shaft out. Now how do I get bracket off. I have supported trans, wiggled and juggled, also slid bracket as far forward and backward as I can, no joy. It is just a tiny bit from coming off. Also anyone know torque specs on these bolts? I believe 65 on front but back????
