I just spoke to Autozone about a scope for looking into inaccessible areas, under the dash for example. Has anyone had experience with one of these? Does it really work the way it's described, or is it just a "gimmick"?

I bought something like this. Very cheap. Does not work great but has helped and is worth the cheap price. I look at the picture on my laptop. Very narrow field of vision.

I purchased one like that a few years ago and used it to evaluate the rust in the windshield frame of a '77 Corvette I had at the time. For that it worked fine, not the best resolution though.
Just bought this one from Autozone, will try it out tomorrow.
Paid $85.00 for it but I figured if I take the car in to replace the Neutral Starter Switch it will cost a small fortune plus I have to locate the timer/delay switch for courtesy lights and that will be another fortune.
Hoping these 2 items will make up for the cost of the scope
I was hoping to have a local service station replace the Neutral switch but I can't find one and he can't either. Further, as I suspected, no one will bypass the switch because of liability, insurance, etc. as far as disabling a safety device. Guess I'll just have to do it

I have the HF bore scope (similar to yours) and have used it to look for the interior light delay relay - have yet to find it that way. I figure I'm going to have to pull the passenger seat and maybe take out the breadbox to find it.
On the Neutral switch, I assume you're talking the one on the clutch on a manual trans car where the clutch as to be depressed before the starter will engage. Again, hard to get to but if you can reach it, follow the wire out and you'll find a connector a few inches from the switch. If you can unhook it, jumper the wire going to the dash and you've bypassed that switch.
The scope works but it's hard to snake the camera end in and around things under the dash unless you have one hand on that end of the extension IMO, which I can't always do.
I've used that scope on both of them plus a few things around the house. It's hard to get your orientation under the dash IMO because it only shows such a small area.
