Got a 90 vert in triple black. Now that I got my new chrome wheels on her, I think it needs more chrome accenting being the only other chrome on the car are the exhaust tips.
So I bought some chrome trim/stripe today and put it around the tail lights tucked into the groove - here is a pic (it is only on the right sode of the 1st picture) - what are your opinions - rice or nice?
If most votes are for nice, I'm also gonna add it to the front DLR lights.
I'm also planning on adding chrome door handles but can't find a source - anyone know where these are available? Also want to add chrome trim around the markers lights (both front and rear) - anyone know if this is available and if so from where? Lastly wouldn't mind a chrome piece on the rear view mirrors - not over the mirror housing itself but that small flat bracket connecting the mirror to the car - anyone know if this is available?
Lastly, for the fun of it I placed (not permanently) the chrome stripe I have into the top groove of the vette's mid bumper separator thingy - what do you think - rice or nice? This will be subtle but will accent it - is this good or bad?
I gotta tell you, I don't hate it. As I was reading your post before I got to the pictures I was thinking no way but seeing the pic, that's not bad at all. As said above clean and restore the black strip and you can get a better idea about chrome there. One more thing. Hit the parts store and buy some chrome spray paint. Prep and paint your door handles. Now you know if you will like it and can persue finding chromed ones. If you don't like it you are a hour from having black door handles again with some sand paper and paint. Cheap way to see.
Like others on here, I like the strip on the taillights, it is subtle enough to look factory, adds just enough bling to look upscale. I don’t like the beltline application, and only put chrome on the door handle if you like burning your hand on hot sunny days.
Here is my advice. I have found that trying to make a car "my own" is usually a big fat fail. I decided after years and years its better to spend my time and money perfecting what the original designers designed. Spend your money on new old stock parts from ebay for example. Or a newly covered shift ****. Repaint your vents.. when a corvette looks new it has a wow factor.
Replacing parts with brand new parts is fun and you wont be questioning yourself and losing sleep.
If you must, make very subtle changes which most people wont notice.
Now since you solicited opinions on that chrome trim work.. it looks like crap.
Also; please wash and wax your car. Spend your time filling all those paint nicks with paint and clear coat. Learn how to color sand and polish.
