Default Refurbishing A Targa Top

Bought a red targa top yesterday for cheap.
my polo green didnt come with a painted top so I wanted one.

bought this guy for $100 locally (OLD craigslist ad )

headliner is shot, and needs paint and weather stripping.
weather stripping is on its way already, and I'm going to re-do the headliner in black vinyl.

this top has some rubber pads installed (removed now) that I've never seen before. any idea where I can find them? im missing one pad (rear inside of top near the rear screws)

this will be an entire DIY project BTW

Keep us posted on the project.

I picked up a turquoise top that is in worse shape than yours and I am planning to restore it for a silver car. So I am very interested in following what all you do and how it comes out. Hopefully some tips you may discover too.

Good luck.

the weather stripping was a complete pain in the *** to remove (super glued on I think )

I ended up ripping it off and there are 5 screws on the rails where the stripping goes. I removed the rails and used a hook screw driver to remove the glue and remaining rubber off the inside rails.

im waiting for my new headliner fabric to arrive either monday or tuesday. I'll post more pics as I go along.

When I painted mine I did not realize that the metal edge trim can be removed and reinstalled after painting. That would have made it much easier and not leave an exposed paint edge.

It has felt on the outside. What baffled me is that the rubber pieces are on the inside of the top. I feel like it's some type of head guard lol. It's placed right where you can hit your head.

Have you tried the top on your car? There three different tops for C4s. My 91 came with those pads also, all rubber and attached with double sided tape. Only one is still on the top but I have all four and was wondering is they are after market or factory?

no I haven't tried it yet .looks exactly the same as my current one so I'm assuming it fits. Came off a 1990. 89-96 are the same top .
I'm assuming they are after market as I cant seem to find any info about them anywhere.

The moldings are from the factory. Minor protection for occupants head. Usually they fall off and people have no idea where they came from.
