Hello, I am here from the C6 section to ask about a C4 A/C problem a neighbor has. He has a '94 C4 w/28k miles. Super clean.
A/C not working this season; worked last year. Suspecting low refrigerant he tried a recharge kit, but the compressor is not kicking on. Are there any issues inherent in the C4 A/C controls or other related components that are suspect?
I told him how helpful this forum is and I'd pose the question for him.
there should be plenty on here about the electronic HAVC control. if not its in the service manual don't try and recharge it unless you know the levels
The control head is a known failure item. There are several threads about how to make this repair. Basically it consists of removing the front of the control head and cleaning the switch contacts with a soft pencil eraser. In the event this is actually the problem, then he/she might be able to get things working by pushing on the trim panel right directly adjacent to whatever button on the control head, while pushing the button for the desired mode at the same time. I would at least try this before disassembling everything.
