from personal experience...NO :nono:
I'm running true duals (MAD) and Flowmasters. No Cat(s), No Y, just pipes and flowmasters.
On the highway, I don't notice much difference at all, top on or off. Around town and when you :smash: it, it gets pretty loud though :D
Once you get your RPM up, the tone changes and actually becomes pretty nice
It all depends on your tolerance for noise, and your gearing. In my case my worst resonance frequency happens to fall at 70 mph in 6th gear. I can either go fast, drive in 5th gear, or live with it.
I've really gotten used to it these days so it really doesn't bother me.
It also really depends on what transmission and rear end ratio you have. Mine is an automatic with 2.59 rear end, which ends up with a pretty low RPM on the highway. I have the 3-chamber variety Flowmasters that are in Mid-America's catalog. I think they sound great at WOT, but are very relatively quiet on the highway. I definitely say go for it, you won't regret this small investment!
I'm running the flowmaster catback and the rest of the exhaust is stock. It is very mellow at normal driving rpms. At 60mph, with my 3.45 gears, the motor's turning about 1900rpm. There's no resonation and when you're not standing on it, they're not loud at all. I actually wish they made the system with 2-chamber mufflers, instead of the 3-chamber ones that come with it. I wanted something a little bit more aggressive.
I can't give you an opinion on what they would sound like on an L98. But I have long tube headers and a Flowmaster cat-back on my ZR-1. I absolutely love the sound of the car. Not to mention the 23 RWHP gain at 6600 RPM that the Flowmasters added.

Re: flow master (Whitevette91)
Ive used Flows on my cars for over a decade now and think theyre fantastic. However, make sure you get the 3 chamber models rather than the 2 chamber ones. The 2 chamber Flows are too loud for any lengthy driving IMO. Of course that being said Im sure someone will immediately say theyre just fine. If you have the time try to track down a Forum member in the local area that has them already. I use the 3 chamber flows on my vette and they sound *perfect*!!! :blueangel:
I had a 2 chamber on my LT1 trans am. I liked the throaty idle, but, yes, it was pretty loud. I didn't mind, being still young at 22, but I could see where it would get bothersome for some. The 3 chambers on my 86 vette now are quite a bit more tame.
Probably better that way, since a vette is supposed to be a more sophisticated car than the trans am.
0.Ok, here is my .02c. I have the two chamber Flowmasters on my car. Outside , there sound great at any speed. Inside, at slower speed and RPM's they are too loud for me. The resonance I mean . I've often thought of taking them off untill someone says " Da*, that sounds great. I had the three chamber on my 87 and there was very little resonance in the car. But, outside, they did not sound as good as the two chamber.
Which 2 chamber mufflers did you use? Did you have them custom welded or bolt on from flowmaster like the 3 chambers that come with the catback?
I'd really like to have a pair of 2 chambers on my car, I think they sound better, but yes, they are quite a bit louder.
My Flows are fairly loud, but I have reduced the interior noise quite a bit, via Jut-pad (built into carpet) and DynaMat in portions of the car, ie-doors, etc. But, I enjoy the sound they give off, outside the car, a lot.
Chris, yes, they are all welded, no clamps and the tips are ss welded to the mufflers. I like the single outlet better that the double ones. Actually, when I ahd them installed, I was under the impression they were three chamber, not two. Ask first :)
