Can't believe a 87 Callaway just went for $19,000. What a deal someone got.

That's all their worth unless your a current owner .. i mean don't we all want more than anyone for our cars? lol

C4's haven't had a resale value in many many moons. C5 can be bought in some cases for less than a C4

There was a 2009 ZR1 with 17 miles, yes 17 miles that sold for only 60. Granted there is some buyer's premium, but 60 ? a restored 1964 Impala 409 sold for 57K right after it.

For the most part, Corvettes after (I believe 72) just don't fair well (the last year of the steel bumpers). I have seen "restomod" Corvettes for a lot, but not stock versions.

The auctions are normally depressing if you are expecting a high number. There are alot of good deals at the moment, but you have to have cash or line of credit. You have to be qualified to bid and you have to pay today. City and time of year as well. The order is important also a ZR1 with a c3 lt1, ss454, c2 coupe following. Buyers may give the zr1 a pass hoping to score something else.
Towards the end someone might bid it up just to take something home. You have to have disapline. I went to auctions after one item and came home with stuff I didn't plan on. They were some items i never dreamed would sell so cheap so I bought them. I didn't do bad, but by the time my primary item came on the block i was short on cash.

I thought the same thing as I was watching it live.
Then afterwards I thought again and realized that's the market.
It's still more than double of the going rate for a '87 non Calloway in equal condition.

Isn't that a contradictory statement? If C5's can be bought for less the C4's doesn't that indicate resale value for C4's?

There is also a 10% "buyer's premium" added onto the price.

I know that the majority of those folks are not Corvette folks. Nor are most of those folks drivers. I would say a majority of them are waxers and fondlers and the cars never leave the room that they are put in when delivered. The majority of them are also very "well healed".

I recognized one of the buyers in that room. He sold off a lot of his collection during one of the last auctions and is buying more. Based on his collection (which was documented) he is VERY wealthy.

When trying to run in the same crowd(s) of the moneyed folks, C4 Corvettes just don't fit in. The C1,2 and early 3's have a "look" that the C4's don't. Not saying they are better cars, just they have a look from a different era. Chrome bumpers and gleaming paint, coupled up with a dressed out engine that has no smog controls present a better "trophy" than a car that has plastic bumpers, smog controls and will run rings around them.

Agreed, There is also a 8% SELLERS fee for non-reserve cars and a 10% fee for cars with a reserve. They're making some serious cash.

The 1968 corvette at one time was like a C4 nobody wanted one. Look at today 68 prices they are given more respect. The auction yesterday was all bling! Some vehicles were over priced and others were give aways like the C4. It runs like the market buy now (low prices) and sell high in the future. C4 are great cars for there time and still will be in the future!

C4 prices are steadily on the rise in my neck of the woods, but only manual C4's. C5 prices are dipping pretty hard and about the only thing holding value right now are Z06's. In fact plenty of Z06's are selling for more than base C6's.

Yes, asking prices are up on manual C4s. With that said, I wonder what they are really selling for.

No that's not what i'm getting at.. judging by this forum alone shows the C4's that are for sale have asking prices much too high compared to a base model C5's asking prices on this forum.

I think auctions like yesterday at B.J. sets the market and shows what the real world is paying for C4's.

As i said when we sell we always want the most and 90% of the time we want too much compared to current market selling prices.

I will stick with my C5 Z06.. much better car than any C4... Also yes i have owned a couple of C4's and three C5's.

Hope that clears up my opinion.... Have a Great Sunday folks its HOT here. REAL HOT

There are lots of C4's for sale and lots of C5's. It seems (from what I have observed) that the C5's get dumped in the 70/80 K mileage range. I have been seeing 5's down in the 12's around here. I would expect that they are being dumped due to the impending maintenance costs.

At least with our C4's we can get parts. If the C5 ABS module goes bad, or the BCM goes bad, either you get held up by a Corvette recycler owner who knows how valuable those parts have become, or it becomes an expensive boat anchor. I have seen numerous "Letters to the Editor" in different Corvette focused magazines talking about the issues and the editors echoing back about the problems starting to pop up in the later generation cars.

A C5 Z06 can be a great platform to build a really great car on as long as those 2 components don't fail. Granted, there are more cars that don't fail that do, but how would you like to be the owner of one that does ?

I just bought my 1986 Z51 - 15000 miles showroom mint two tone for $ 12,000 lot of money but showroom condition. Got the build sheet. window sticker, dealer invoice, bill of sale, warranty tags. All of the original corvette brocures, shop manuals, bose intruction casstte unopened and every invloice since new.. Car cover, every vette magazine from 86/87/88 brand new mats over the original brand new mats.

Lot of money but you can't get much for 12k.
