I have a question regarding the passenger air bag. My summer project engine rebuild (355 LT1) is underway and I would like to take my 3yo son for a ride upon completion.
Do I have any options regarding passenger air bag disable?
A quick Google search has not been very successful.
You could try to back date to a 90-93 where there isn't a passenger side airbag.
Other would be a trip to pick and pull or maybe a larger body shop for air bag connectors. I would. make jumper harness with a switch. When air bag is disabled warning light would be on.
IDK how easy it would be to adapt the factory disable switch used in pick ups and c5.
The '94 Owner's Manual will have information regarding taking young children as passengers and how the passenger side air bag plays a part. At 3 years old, laws require that your son will still need some sort of child seat or restraint that provides for securing the child seat to the passenger seat.
Chevy sold an airbag off switch for the 97/99 C-5's as a retrofit kit. For grins you might take a look and see if that kit will do you any good or give you some ideas.
I have the airbag switch, I haven't installed it yet, but since I will want to eventually take my kids for a ride before they are fully grown disabling is the only option.
