Over the last few weeks my car has turned into Christine! It is starting to get much colder at night now and she has to sit outside. In the morning she doesn't look too happy with dew on her and a few leaves from a nearby tree. She is leaking oil and transm. fluids more than ever which she will be seeing a doctor about real soon. Yesterday we were driving out to see some fall colors (my wife and I, not me and Christine) and the interior lights stayed on while I was driving. When we stopped I played with the button inside the drivers door and they finally went off. This morning I drove my wife to work and we were sitting in front of her office with the car off just chatting and all of the sudden the rear hatch pops open and goes up. My wife and I looked at each other like #@!%&! Then I heard the distinctive click-click.....click-click.....of the hatch release. I opened the poassneger door and played withe the hatch release botton a little and it stopped doing it. Now, I have terrible thoughts of the car sitting in a parking lot and deciding to let anyone who wants in by opening the hatch on it's own, which with the doors locked will set off the alarm!!!! I may have to put her to sleep for the winter soon!! Anyone else have electrical problems connected to the door/release buttons like this??

I dont have the problem with the hatch opening on its own...yet...but the others, yeah. The other nite taking my youngest to the ex's the inside lights flickered on and off all the way there. Opening and closing the drivers door would stop it for a bit but then it started back up again. I think the door isnt closing tight as its started rattling lately too. Sometimes the inside lights stay on even after I close the doors....I have to turn the ignition on and off a couple times to reset that. All the small warning sounds and indicators work whenever they want to and most of the time they dont, lol. Oh well.....I was going along for the longest time in denial about weird vette problems, I know better now :yesnod: :blueangel:
hmmm...maybe my interior light problem was an ignition thing too. That hatch opening on it's own though was very weird, just glad it did it when I was sitting in the car stopped and not cruising on the highway with a bunch of work papers in the back!!!! that would haver given a lot of motorists a story when they got home!
I don't know about that stuff but I had some problems with my radio on the way home from Austin. For some odd reason during the roadtrip, I would turn the car off at places to stop, take the key out of the ignition, open the door, and the radio is still going! I would either have to start the car again and turn it off with the door open or mess with the power door locks. Really wierd. I figured it had to do with my fuzzbuster being hardwired to the fuse panel, so I wiggled it a bit and haven't had a problem since then. Kinda wierd something like that was going on though.
The lights flickering combined with rattles is often due to worn hinges. They have replaceable pins and bushings......... any good auto supply store has the parts :seeya
Your rear hatch door switchs should not work with the door shut. They are grounded throught the interior courtesy light system. I would think you have a bad courtesy switch for one and a bad hatch release.
Sometimes, I wish that mine was Christine. I would drive it backwards until it was new, but then I would loose all of the modifications.
Never mind

Hahaha. I've never heard of this s*** happening to other before. Interesting. My car's just about as "Christine" as they come. One way or another my family and my gf believe my car's possessed. Interestingly enough.....when I drive it...........nothing happens at all. It's perfect. When others are around it without me, it goes apes***. My mom tried to drive it one day and the air conditioner just went haywire. It's an electronic system(not the manual) and it kept switching through all the settings at like warp speed she claimed. LOL. Then the hatch went up in mid traffic and the alarm went off. Just to make her "look stupid" apparently. As she claims of course. My stepdad tries to drive it next and the auto shifter is "stuck" so he can't even get out of the parking lot. Then when he gets out of the car to tell me what's going on....the door locks which he claimed he "didn't lock". So I use the remote for the alram sys and everythings fine. Start it right up. No problems at all. I say "see....nothing". He gets in and starts it up and pulls out of the driveway. Right when I go inside the house....I hear the alarm going off and the hatch and the emergency lights are going haywire. So I come out and use turn off the alarm and everything's fine again. Now me and the ride have a sort of kinship. The greatest of which is when my gf is bitching at me to let her drive.........last week I gave in to her whining and while she was in the drivers seat, I s*** you not, the air conditioning sys was already directed to the drivers side so I get cool air, and when she was sitting there, it blew max heat at full velocity. I was too busy laughing to really calm her down.........she was furious. LoL she never b i t c hed at me again to let her drive. I wonder why  BTW my mechanic will NOT work on my car in his shop when he's alone now. He was the first to suggest the car was "possessed". He claimed it was spitting oil at him or something when he was putting in my platinum spark plugs a while ago and then the hood dropped on his head. LMFAO. He wants a witness to it which is why he has a buddy of his help him in the shop now. So far, nothing "odd" has happened to him since then when he works on my car but I can tell he's still s***** bricks when I take it down to him.
Just don't give up on her.........I think they are well worth the extra troubles......
Mine has 87k on it...Just now have started updating parts lately...just for the heck of it....
so far so good...I've owned it for 11 years now.....
well good luck... :smash:  :smash:

Oh, I won't give up on her. She's approaching 90,000 and I've owned her for 16 years. As far as others commetns about the hatch, first, thanks for the comments, second, I am not so sure that the 84 had a safety feature so the hatch wouldn't open while the car is in drive, etc. :seeya
