Default Door help requested.

Hey.. How do set the depth adjustment on the door?

Every other car I have ever seen had a movable striker pin in the jamb that went in and out to set this. Mine (both sides, actually) appears to not move at all. They screw out.. They screw back in. But they do not move.

Is there something I'm missing here?

Car is an 85, if it matters..

I've really never had mine apart, but on my 85, I could not adjust the door depth using the striker pins. the pins appear to screw into a fixed nut on the inner body door jamb. i'm guessing those pins are in a fixed position. you might get some minor adjustment on the striker receiver mechanism that's mounted internal to the door jamb, but I doubt it's much. I could not get my pins to move, up/down, in/out - fore/aft uses spacers for positioning. I was only able to adjust my doors fore/aft and with a slight radial movement using the door hinge adjustments. I've spent hours adjusting my driver's door - it's OK on the close and latch function, but barely. it's been problematic since I bought the car in 1995. takes a little extra effort to close and latch my drivers door. it's something I live with. the passenger side is perfect - open, close, alignment, etc..

if you look at the way the car is painted around the striker pins, it appears the striker pins were in position and masked prior the painting the car. it appears to be the case on my 85 since a good part of the spacers are painted, but the striker pin itself is not. the way I read it, the pins are fixed there was no intent to use them for any kind of door adjustment - ???

Exactly what do you mean by "depth"? How tight it hits the window seal?

Depth into the jamb.. Like the leading edge of the door relative to the quarter panel.

There are 2 adjustments inside the door behind the trim panel, one in front and one towards the rear. If you start adjusting these be careful, don't immediately slam the door.
close it slowly to be sure it isn't going to hit the frame and shatter the window.

not sure i'm using the right terminology here -- I guess i'm trying to say, how far in, or out, the door itself is toward the center line of the car, or how the outer door skin lines up with the rear quarter panel when viewing down the side of the car. the window seal tightness is a separate adjustment, and is controlled by internal door glass/regulator adjustments. when I did my door adjustment, i started at the rear door edge, or door gap, since the quarter panel is in a fixed position, and worked forward. all adjustment were made with the door hinge assemblies. I set the rear door gap, and aligned my body side molding cavities (horizontally). my front door gap is set with the hood and front fender panel adjustments.

If the door only misaligns with the front gill lower panel, that panel can be adjusted to be flush with the door. If the rear of the door misaligns with the rear quarter panel then I don’t know how that is adjusted.

Yeah... That's the question. Door and Quarter alignment.

I dunno either? I see nothing there.
