The dash looks so much cleaner without it, and if you need access to any of the stuff behind it (And there's A LOT OF STUFF BEHIND IT!) you can get in there in like 5 seconds. BOOM! And it's done. They say it's "in stock" at Ecklers ??
What's in that breadbox - why is it there?
Nothing.. It's a big foam pad.
I am told that a bunch of giggling GM Engineers put it there to frustrate my attempts at repairing anything on the passenger's side of the car as a safety device and as a placeholder because they were unsure if airbags would be mandated and that was the spot they were slated to go.

I always wondered what those things were.. When I was 8 or so and they were new I always thought they had first aid stuff in them

Before I got mine I was looking through some pics here on an old thread about them.. One of them had a hinged front and formed a little glove box looking deal there.
That things only redeeming quality is that it says Corvette on it.
yeah. to be honest, and maaaaybe its just because the cars i tend to seekoit and refurb have been hacked and "adjusted" from oem shal we say, not in a good way, .....i actually like the crash pad. my thoughts are that it breaks ip and otherwise flat panel dash. As DT says is branded with CORVETTE on it in a car that otherwise doesnt say corvette anywhere inside the car unless you happen to have the sport seats and they are still oem, and even if tou do it's entirely subtle with the embroidery.
In fact, the breadbox is the only other hint that you are in a vette other than the c4 logo in the steering wheel horn button.
granted ive seen some crash pad replacements that have a big logo on them.
anyway, ill vote in favour of the breadbox, even if its not pre-sliced.
