Okay I have an LT1 engine and it has the Optispark "distributor" type system on it. It's in an unconvential location, compared to the L98 motors distributor.
The problem that I'm having is that at high speeds the rotor is getting smashed into the cap, which totally demolishes the distributor and leaving me stranded on the side of the road. Why is the thing shifting around like this??? Is there a problem with the cam shaft on my motor?
The car ran 30 miles after the new Optispark was installed and boom it went dead along the highway. It's hooked to a manual transmission and has about 65k miles on the motor itself.
Has your car been retro-fit with the LT1? If so, is it a 95-96 with the vented Opti-spark? What I'm wondering is if the fresh-air line is plugged and engine vacuum is collapsing the cap until it contacts the rotor. Kinda far fetched, but one possible explanation.
