Frustrating........help........have 95 C4 , 34,000 miles .....none working side marker lights. Small yellow light works with signals ( faultless) however the large lights next to them (clear lens) do nothing, ....single element, new bulbs, good fuse......don't work with engine running or off....tell me what are they supposed to do and WHEN?
Also after activating headlights (fully up) they continue to make a bump, bump, bump noise.....is this an indication of stripped plastic gears.....I know brass replacements are available but do I really need them? .....95 C4....ron
The large white lights on the front sides are cornering lights. They should come on with the key in run and the turn signal for that side engaged.
The white side lights on the rear should come on with the switch in run and the transmission in reverse.
As for the headlights it could be the gear or it may be the three plastic dowels that make the gears turn. They tens to become brittle and break up.
You can buy a repair kit online or there is a Dorman number for them as well. If it is the dowels (some call them rollers), they cost around $10 for parts and an afternoon of labor.

thank you belairbrian.........pretty sure I tried this, but I will give it another shot........do your headlights make any noise after they are all the way up?

On my '93, the front cornering lights only come on when the parking lights or the headlamps are on. Engine doesn't have to be running, but the ignition key has to be in the RUN position. The rear side backup lights come on when Reverse is engaged regardless if the lights are on or not.
^^ correct ^^
I know how this circuit is wired, so I'm pretty sure the cornering lights work with the park lights on, regardless of key on or off. But its been a long time since I checked, so am not positive. Just pretty-darn-sure.
Never tried to check cornering lights with the lights off so that probably is correct. But I'm pretty sure the key needs to be on. Since the key needs to be on to make signal light work it think it would need to be on for the cornering lights to work.

Mine did it on the close end of the cycle until i repaired them.
I tried it and you're right no key is needed to activate the front cornering lights.
Only required states are parking lights on and turn signal lever in left or right.
Without the key the turn signal does not flash but the cornering light does come on. Kind of a strange design.

A thank you to all who attempted to help with the headlights.......boy are they fixed!.......took about 2 hrs each, removal from car, on the bench disassembly and last but not least.....replacement of the plastic gear and all 6 "pellets" ....found on ebay.....total cost.....38.00 (free shipping).....two gears, six pellets ( pellets had turned to dust!) Now they both snap to attention , as they should ( no extra noises)........only negative to the experience GM in their infinite wisdom, choose to put ALL motors together with the screws on the same side, so one motor grants easy disassembly while the other sits there and flips you off while you are coming to the realization that " ****, this side is going to be a bitch!" and it was, requiring total removal of the motor just to take apart the gearbox. Again......thanks for the suggestions and help.....much appreciated. As for those side marker lights.....I removed both and replaced them with candles! I have light them with every turn but what the hell, I do truly love my 95 C4......lol....lol...lol
