Looking for a little help with something that I'm sure has happened to many before me...When I turn off the ignition, park break, and open the door, the stereo remains on. Up till a few days ago, it operated as I thought advertised. Key out, etc., but once door opened, stereo shut off. If I open the passenger door with the key removed, it shuts right off. I'm guessing there is a relay or something triggered by the door/doors opening. Can anyone lead me down the right path (without me simply tearing into it)??
Thanks in advance for your expertise (gratuitous sucking up inserted here)...
I'm going to make a SWAG (scientific wild butt guess) and suggest that you look and see if there is a "button" in the door jam that signals to the radio that the door has been opened. I don't have such a luxury on my "old" Vette, but I would think that either there's a "button" or it uses the same button that actuates the interior lights or the "door open" light. This is just a guess on my part.
It's sounds like your driver's door switch is stuck in. Mine did that and I tried a little WD-40 on it. That worked for a while, but I ended up having to replace it. Good Luck!
If I understand what you're saying correctly, the stereo shuts off when you open either door after you turn the car off? That's what is supposed to happen, it's so when you turn off the car if there's something you want to listen to on the radio or whatever you don't have to leave your 'vette running. Runs off of a reserve.
I'll take a look in the morning...I figure that may be it (or hoped since I don't feel like making things worse by me working on it... I'll try to clean up and see if that does the trick...Just dark out and while I had the desire to fix it, since the wife's bday, felt like I'd better come inside rather than mess with it now---she's sleeping, should I sneak out??

Re: Little help?? (Jacobsdad)
I have the same problem intermittently with mine too. All the same symptoms as you said. If I jiggle the switch a few times that would sometimes take care of it. Im having another problem now though, my drivers side door rattles like its not closed all the way. That makes the switch actuate on and off erratically and the interior lights flicker on and off. Oh well....I figure its the cost of owning a vette :blueangel:

I had the same problem and did the same thing. Haven't had to replace them yet. Good Luck! :yesnod:
