Growing up I played a lot of Gran Turismo and the 96 Grand Sport, C5R and a few others did very well for me. 2008 I met a guy about my age( 20yo) who tells me he has a corvette. I had just recently bought a 94 Firebird V6 with the auto and with that plus years of video games I thought I could drive anything. Well he lets me drive it, a 1990 Corvette coupe A4 with the cheapest tires I think I have ever seen. At 110Mph I learned exactly how good the corvette corners when it saved me from sliding into a ditch because I carelessly drifted across the double yellow mid turn. The owner and I are still friends and he has lost that car due to flood damage. Because of this when I found my 90 coupe with all the factory upgrades he wanted I couldn't pass it up in hopes to give it to him. He insisted the day we went to pick it up I would never part with it. As of right now I am enjoying the heck out of this car even with its faults, but the offer still stands to him, the only person I can sell this car to his him

I had a 1970 Nova with headers, 4.11 rear end. Since that time and married with 2 children so it has been modest cars over the years with a few Harley Davidson's. One HD is a 2003 with Nitrous Oxide bottle and a stock 2016 Ultra Classic. But, life continues to unfold and my wife is having knee surgery so we decided to purchase our very first 1995 Torch Red Convertible with 28,963 miles. WooHooo!!!! Selling the HD's
Reminds us of the HD as we get the feel of the road, open air of sights, sounds, and smells.

I was about 9 years old. My uncles friend had about a 58 Corvette. I vividly remember sitting in my uncle lap as his friend drove down the back roads around Parkland Washington at 90 MPH. Had wanted one ever since.

My first experience with a Vette was to drive my eldest son's '73 briefly.

my first vette experience was my first corvette driving experience. I was 21 back in 1968. my brother-in-law bought a (used) 67 427/435, 4-speed, goodwood green vert (over saddle w/ white top) - side pipes and all, so my first experience was driving the ultimate bad boy. back then, nobody knew much about how rare this was or how rare that was. turns out fred's roadster had aluminum heads, so, it was one of 16, L89's. fred kept the car about 9 months, and traded in in on a Mercedes - not one of his smarter moves. that corvette today would be well into 6-figures.

In 1968 we lived in New Mexico and my father's friends had a cookout at White Sands.

One of his friends had just sold his '67 Corvette and got a brand new bright red '68 427 tripower 4 speed. We were talking about it and when he heard I had never driven a manual transmission, he offered to teach me how to drive a stick. So at 14 years old, I got to learn to drive on a brand new Corvette.

To get me started he told me to hold the rpm up and let out the clutch. It spun on the sand and we took off. We drove around in White Sands for about a half an hour and he taught me how to drive.

I was hooked!

My FIRST experience was a 67, 427 BBC, silver-blue coupe, back in my college dayz. It was a tri-power w/o power steering, and the accelerator spring was very heavy. It rode like a tank and steered hard and squeaked (just like my wife's C3 does).

The car was beautiful, and the BBC was a very nice touch (along with that hood). But, talk about RAW! I wasn't expecting it to be "Rude, Crude, and Socially unacceptable!" The difference between that car and my 95 M6 coupe was enormous! The C4 was a quantum leap ahead of that 67 (and my wife's 69 C3)!

Beautiful cars - those C2s - especially the 63 SWC (drooling all my life). But....

Back in 1968, I was nine years old and my uncle owned a 58 Corvette. It was pretty rough, as was my uncle, but it was a ton of fun to go places with him. Everyone always looked. That was great fun for a kid.

This might sound weird but my first Vette experience was in 1978 when I bought a new one. I had never driven one. I had to drive the brand new vette 60 miles in a snowstorm to get home. I made it with no problems. $10,125.00 out the door.

In 1969 I was driving to work one afternoon and I passed a small Chevrolet dealer. I noticed a 1963 Roadster sitting on the used car side of the lot. I stopped and looked at the car and all I could see was that it was a Corvette. It would not start and I had to go on to work. I told the salesman that I would take it if they got it running. They wanted $900.00 for the car. I offered $800.00 and they accepted. I was hooked on Corvettes from that day and have enjoyed several over the years. Got drafted into the US Army in 1970 and decided to sell the car to have some extra money (bad mistake) wish I still owned it.

Did your purchase have to do with all the hype about 78s?

In 1962 i was 12 yrs old play on school ground one day during the summer when a guy drove up in a 62. Had a control line plane in front seat. took it out and proceeded to set up to fly. A friend of his in another car was there helping him. when he took off it went up and straight down crashing into a hep of balsa wood. He picked up the parts and put in his trunk, got in the car and left a black mark and smoke as he took off. I thought then , i got to have a corvette some day.

I was a teenager in the 1980s and always wanted a C4. In the mid 1990s I was literally dating the girl next door (gorgeous one that got away) and her dad had a maroon 1988 coupe 4-speed. At the time I had a couple 60's Mustangs with manual transmissions. As he and I got to know each other (while I dated his daughter), he could tell I took care of them and I knew how to drive them. So one Saturday morning he suggested we take his beloved Corvette out for a drive and of course I said yes. Everyone in the family was shocked because he never let anyone drive that car, but he offered me the opportunity without asking. Anyway we got in and he drove us around for about 30 minutes, putting it through the paces, ending up in downtown San Jose. He pulls over and asks me if I am ready to drive it, of course I say yes and we switch seats. I was very careful since it was my first time in this particular car, gentle with the throttle and clutch and shift lever. After about 10 minutes I'm pretty comfortable with all the controls and find a highway on-ramp. I can still remember the rush of torque in 3rd gear... wow that thing really ran strong! I entered the highway doing around 80 but the guy never flinched or looked at me or anything, like I was doing exactly what he expected. In fact I think he had a smile on his face. That was my first C4 experience and I finally got my own C4 in 2013 (1995 coupe 6-speed).

My dad had a 71', 78', and an 85. The 71' and 78' were before my time, but the black 85' he had while I was in kindergarten/1st grade. I remember him picking me up from school with the roof off. I remember the 4+3 and him letting me press the O/D Button lol. Ever since then I knew one day I would have my turn at one.

Age 3, 1972:

Mom had my Dad's 67 Marlboro maroon vert 427/435 out for errands. Me-standing in the passenger seat.
Mom turns left in front of a school bus. Me-up under the dash.
Mom calls my Dad from the service station after we are in the ambulance.
Dad shows up.......
First priority-he wants to see his car-nothing left of it behind the service station. A pile of fiberglass, 4 wheels and a drivetrain.
Second priority-he wants to see his first born son (me in the ambulance).
Third priority-is my mother alive because if she is, it won't be for much longer.
Fourth priority-Dad goes out that night and buys a new 72 vert in blue with a white top.
Fifth priority-ensure my mother NEVER receives another set of keys to ANY of his verts. NEVER!

Story was verified by his little sister (my aunt).

That 67 left a mark on me (literally on my skull) to this day.

They are no longer married (it would have been 50 years last month). Not sure if this incident contributed to their demise or not!

A sexy story, yet full of multiple tragedies (namely that gorgeous car).

I am an owner of verts for life......

I grew up in the '70's and my parents always bought slow cars; Dodge Caravan, Mazda 323, Dodge Colt, '80 Buick Skylark. So that was my point of reference. In '88 or so, my parents bought this boat from a guy in Winchendon MA....

The seller had an '88 TPI/Auto 'Vette; red/red. After the transaction, my brother and I asked the guy if he'd take us for a ride in the 'Vette. He said sure and he showed off everything it had. We might as well have been in a rocket ship headed to the moon. It was wicked and the 1-2 shift with resultant wheels spin was "shock and awe" to me at the time.

I already lusted after any/all Corvettes...but that ride only sealed the deal further for me.
What happened to the Hydrostream ? I love those !
