Default 1984 window regulator motor problem

Once again, another oddball part. My window regulator motor has a motor with a plastic gear on it. 22 tooth. The motor seems fine but I can't buy one because apparently no one stocks the motor with the plastic gear. They all seem to be a similar motor with a smaller smaller 12 tooth metal gear. They also sell ribbons but I am sure they are for the 12 tooth gear also. My motor seems fine but the ribbon seems like it is binding. I took it all apart to clean but no matter how I lube the ribbon, it still binds. Not stopping but slows the whole mechanism down. I have strong current going to the motor and even if I go directly to the battery it still moves the same.

Anyone? Also the whole setup isn't available anymore it seems. I can't give up now but I want to!

Here is what I did to my 84 with the slow windows. I changed mine over to the newer 87-96 regulators. I picked them up on the c4 parts for sale section and got both replacements for just a little over a $100.00. There is no comparison between the two the way they operate. IIRC there were two holes that have to be drilled in the bottom of the door and one side required switching the wires in the wiring for the motor. It was not too bad a job and was well worth it to me.

Here is a link to a video someone doing this upgrade:

Looks easy like you mentioned. One thing, did the new holes made in the bottom of the door line up with the old holes? I mean if you drew a line through all 4 would they line up, even though the new ones are closer together? I will start looking!

Thanks

I really do not remember whether they did or not. I just measured for the holes and drilled them. No problems. Zip Corvette has a set of instructions on replacing the older style with the newer ones at this link: http://www.corvettemagazine.com/tech...grade-install/
