Should I buy a C4 or a C5?

I would look for a later C4. I used to love the C5s now they look weird to me. My next Vette would either be a classic or I’d skip to C6 or C7. The interior of the C5 looks to similar to other GM vehicles of that era.

I had 2 C5s and 2 C4s – (2 95s and 2 99s)The C5 just did EVERYTHING better. It was a major improvement in ride quality, it didn’t shake with the roof panel off, and the roof took a few minutes to remove and replace. The aftermarket support is non-existent for a C4 as compared to the C5.Just drive each car for about 20 minutes….
(But I do think the C4 is better looking)

This post in the c5 section is up to 3 pages. We can do better people!
Get the C4. C5s are no good
Cmon people, this is a C4 forum. Of course the C4 is the way to go!. I don't see more than 1 person in the C5 thread that said go for C4

True. IF I wanted a rattle trap, I'd have bought a $500 winter beater. I can't afford to fix the AC, stereo and sunroof on the W210 since I'd be upside down on it but even then, it isn't a rattle trap. I don't see the need to live in last century just because I have what others call a sports car.

I prefer LT over LS when the "5" is attached - smoother, higher revving, more power potential (if naturally aspirated), and certainly more beautiful. Sure you can make really big power with an LS if supercharged or turbocharged, but there always seem to be durability problems with those modifications.

IDK. I had issues with the L98 when I made mods. Bottom line is I had to accept the idea that if you want to go fast, you have to make sacrifices. As they say "Fast, Cheap, Reliable". Pick any 2. I assume that is going to happen with any motor. Built up motor, trans breaks. Beef up trans, rear end breaks.

I am looking to buy my first corvette. I have been looking around for a couple of months now. I am not looking for a show car, but something to drive. Not a daily driver, but something fun to drive on the weekends, and an occasional trip with my wife. I have narrowed my search to a 1991 corvette with a 6 speed manual transmission and z07 suspension package. It has 45,000 miles. It is incredibly clean and has been well maintained. The other choice is a 1998, also a 6 speed & 85,000 miles. The C5 is about $3000 more. My question is should I opt for the car that has more horsepower? The 1991 has the L98 engine, which is about 245 horsepower, but I hear is a very reliable engine. I posted this question in the C5 forum, & predictably got most of the responses in favor of the 1998. Thought I should give equal air time to the C4 guys. I'm interested to hear your opinion.

Regardless, performance will degrade as the years pass, even for a C5 as every dog has it's day - Some day, even the mightiest of today's Vettes will be just another old and "slow" car.

A stock C4 or C5s aren't world-beaters in the performance department so lets set aside the spec comparos as either can be generously modded to fly

Question. Take a fully functional C4 and a fully functional C5. Dollar for dollar, which do you think I will get more power for the money spent? Assuming you can find a competent C4 tuner nearby otherwise you are having to drag it somewhere which increases the cost.

I think the better example would be choice between a 40 year old girl with 100k in the bank and a manager at McDonald's and a 30 years old girl with 200k in the bank and a regional manager at McDonald's.

Not quite my point but you sure have a fascination with mcdonalds. My point was theres a whole lot more to a C4 than numbers and stats which yes.. the c5 is superior. styling is subjective, as is a personality and looks when it comes to women.
