My Corvette Srinks
My 1994 LT1 6-speed corvette has a specific odor from under the hood when it gets warmed up / hot. The cause of this stench is a badly neglected leaking intake manifold from the previous owner, and I have to admit it, me. I finally got around to resealing the manifold and it is now squeaky clean with no leaks. Now on to the odor. I believe that the engine has years upon years of built up oil and grease on the lower portion of the engine. Without jacking the car up or putting it on a lift I have managed to degrease a good portion of the engine. The biggest area is the front of the engine at the H2O pump, opti spark - yes I was VERY careful in that area, - and a cross member that is just below the front of the engine. Although the smell is not as bad now, I can still get a good whiff of old oil and grease. My question now is, has anyone really gone over their own LT1 and super cleaned it, and is there any areas I should pay attention to that I might over look? My next venture for this detail work is to jack up the front end, put it on car ramps and jacks and attack it from the bottom up. The rear and top of the block behind the intake manifold is also very clean, but there might be an area below there that I cannot see.
Feel free to chime in with advise, criticism, cleaning products, etc...
Thanks in advance,
Cessnaguy
