Default Service Engine Soon Light

My 1995 C4 has 45k miles.
The Service Engine Soon Light is on. When shifting gears sometimes the trans jerks.
Also sometimes it just shuts off at red lights.
Any help?

The best thing for you to do is to read the codes that the system will be putting out. this gives you the best diagnostic starting point. If you do not know how to use a paper clip to read the codes you can google it. Here is a basic set of instructions:

From what I'm reading in past posts the common most cause for service engine soon is a mobile 1 oil change (which I've done already) and a code to replace both O2 sensors. Both of mine are original 1995 oem. Your thoughts?

Find out what code or codes are causing the check engine light. This is the first step.

If you are unsure how to do it I believe Autozone and some other parts stores, will do it for you.

P.S. my 95 S10 was obd 2 so I'm not sure why you're being told to use the obd 1 method to read the codes ?

96 was the first year for obd2 in the Vette, and the only year for a C4. 94 and 95 have what looks like an obd2 interface but it’s still an obd1 computer behind it.

Hi all so i took my1995 C4 to my local automotive tech shop.
They did the diognostics code scan check and it read code 48 (mass air sensor failure)
I'm having the work done and sensor replaced and are clearing the code. Hopefully that Service Engine Soon light will disappear.

Frio, good job on getting your code read.

Now for the future, do it yourself and save your diagnostic budget for the actual repair:
