Default Wheel Size Question

Hey everyone,

I have a question about my '94s wheel size. I thought that all coupes have a staggered wheel size (17 x 8.5 Front, 17 x 9.5 Rear) I just acquired my new 94 last week so not sure if the owner changed anything but the wheels themselves appear to be the same size in the front and back and the tire sizes are also the same size all around (275/40ZR17). They seem to be the original OEM sawblade wheels.

According to the RPO Codes which are authentic on the label for the vehicle (VIN matching) its as follows:
XAU - Front Tire, P275/40ZR17
YAU - Rear Tire, P275/40ZR17
QA1 - Wheel, 17 x 9.5 Aluminum

The package is 1SB, marketed option package 2.

Have I been wrong all along in thinking that ALL C4s have staggered front and rear wheels ? Or is mine today the same as it came from the factory ?

Thanks!

If the tire placard and VIN on the certification label match then you're all set with the correct tire/wheel. Not all were 8.5/9.5

Is there maybe Z07 on the SPID also?

Maybe just post a snapshot of the SPID - VIN needs to match on SPID & Certification label.

Sorry, just saw the last two lines of your reply.

There indeed is code Z07 which seems to be "Handling suspension"

Here is a screenshot of the RPO sticker, VIN is correct/matching.

You have a Z07...………...1 of only 887 built in 1994. All standard C4's built after 1992 were equipped with staggered wheels and tires, excluding the ZR1 model which was available to dealers starting with the 1990 model year. http://mirrockcorvette.com/corvette-...de-wheels.html

So I actually just picked this car up last Sunday for $5k. I had no real other knowledge about it other than thinking it was "just another c4 coupe"

When I was talking to the owner I thought it was odd that the wheels were not staggered but again...I only knew what I knew at the time.

I've been in the market for over a year and this particular one for sale was local and happened to be the right time and price for me.

I'm guessing $5k was a good deal ? clock has about 150,xxx

Seems like going through the RPO codes this particular Corvette seems sorta like a ZR1 with its options except without the LT5, thoughts ?

Interestingly there was no separate Z51 package for 1994. If you selected Z07 what you got was the FX3 adjustable shocks, the 13" Big Brake kit up front and "heavy duty suspension components".

If you just ordered the FX3 your car was built using springs that were less stiff.

If it runs and drives good, then yes I would say $5k is a fair deal. Probably has a few little issues here and there, at the very least.

My first 1995 LT1 was loaded with just about everything: FX3, HD suspension, 9.5" wheels all around, TPMS, power sport seats (with adjustable lumbar), ZF6, etc. I don't recall if it had Z51 or Z07 packages but most of the components/parts of these packages can be ordered separately. So a non-Z51 or non-Z07 coded car could be ordered with all or most of the same parts.

Yes and no on the "sorta like a ZR1". The ZO7 option included spring rates 50% higher than on base cars and 24% higher than on ZR1. Stiff on the road but wonderful for the track. Also the front sway bar is 30MM solid steel compared to 24mm tubular on the base and 26mm on the ZR1. Not the power of the ZR1 but built for better track performance.

Z07/Z51 have 9.5 inch all around. It's a good thing since you can do a small reduced wheel rotate/ front to back unlike having 8.5s in the front.Torch red, best color for a C4.
