lately when I start up my 85, the starter "click" one time.....starts ok on the second try....the other day it clicked several times before she went...Had changed the transmission cable awhile ago and I was thinking maybe it wasn't going into park all the way, now I'm not sure....checked the connections, all seems tight.....any suggestions......thinking it's time to order that gear reduction starter and replace the existing beast of a starter I have....assuming that's the problem....just looking for some input.....thanks....
Start with the basics... is your battery fully charged? Are ALL the battery connections clean and tight?.... My money is on poor connection at the solenoid.
battery is new and just installed quick disconnect cables to insure better contact....was doing it before all this....very intermittent....usually when it's cold...
Time to replace the starter. I had the same symptoms on my 95 coupe, dead winding in the starter. Very easy to remove & replace the starter on my year.

Time to diagnose. Take the thing out and have it brought to a reputable builder and tested and torn apart. If Autozone tests it bad, it is bad. I'd still take it to a shop and have it torn down and seen if it is bad or really good. If it is good, refresh some of the possible parts. If it is good, you need to look elsewhere for the problem.
