Default Cars are frustrating

Just a vent session here.

Figured out my fog lights werent working. Did troubleshooting, found that the issue was at the switch. Theyre $100 which is absurd, so i figure i will pull it out and check it over. Do some testing, the diode in it is bad and has become an open. No big deal, replace the diode, all is well.

Except it isnt. In my genius i decided to lengthen the wires to the fog board, thinking itd make it easier to reassemble. It sure did, up intil it shorted out. Great, now the fogs dont work. And power isnt being passed to that board, which for some unknow reason also controls the backlight for the whole assembly.

So i got pissed off about it and havent messed with it anymore. Probably a simple fix, but kicking ,yself for screwing something up trying to imprpve it.

Didn't you just change to led headlights ? Maybe that was someone else …

The fog light relay coil ground is through the high beam filament, and if you didn't deal with this one way or another, then no fog lights for you !

I did, but prior to that I had noticed sporadic at best fog light performance. It was after doing the relay wiring mod I decided to troubleshoot more.

So my luck continues. I decided to replace the plug on my wiper motor, the old one broke some time ago and worked sporadically. Ordered the part number rockauto and every other site said would work... and it doesnt fir. It's the right number of connections, and about the right size and shape, but not the right connector. So I'm 0 for 2 today and or course I figured this out after i cut off the old connector shorter than i should have.

I'm in that stage with "restoring" my C3 that before I get one problem fixed another one appears.

I know, a year from now, I'll be able drive a month or so without a problem but right now sometimes I want to go out and put a bullet in it.

Just think, your oil pan could look like this. (Yes it is metal shavings and not never seize) Been there done that. This engine has ~500 miles on a fresh rebuild so... theres that.

DId you find the cause ? If not, was the engine bored ? Clearanced for a stroker cam ?

ie: something that would have left shavings from a machining process that got missed being 100% cleaned out of the block.

Solid flat tappet cam + guy who treated valve lash like it was a hydraulic. It isn't mine, it's my uncles car but having everything hang flattened the lobes mighty quick. Thing still made good oil pressure too. Then again the shavings helped more than likely. The guy who checked the block for him I would say is incompetent to say the least... he used castrol gtx which while it doesn't have enough zinc, meets the load rating for film strength for a flat tappet so I'm leaving it to the lash. 4 lobes are literally round...

I feel your pain. Many times I've messed with something and it caused problems that took a lot of time to sort out. I've had to walk away and take a breather from the corvette lots of times.

My advise is try to have fun and if its not fun take a break until your ready to tackle the problem without being to frustrated, nothing wrong with taking a break from a hobby for a little while.

Often Failure is the best teacher.

Many many of those folks calling themselves Makers know this by heart. Try, fail, learn, repeat. Sometimes it certainly hurts and is expensive, for sure. But success is worth striving for.

I'm in a subset of Makers, what most of us are here: a Fixer.

The really frustrating part is when you have to work on the daily drivers and grocery getters when you want to work your toys. At some point in my life I may get to a vette being the daily driver, but ain't there yet.

If I only properly lubricated the power antenna , now I got to fix or replace that ....... Then the service ride control light started coming on, sometimes .... Tucked the problems away till spring.

My Corvette is in the garage now with a dead battery. No problem...unfortunately this is a new battery I installed on August 17, 2018. I haven’t replaced it yet but I need to figure out if it’s a bad battery or a short somewhere. I have owned this Corvette for almost 29 years. Yes it is frustrating

Not frustrating challenging . Being married and keeping that deal going now that's frustrating ,Corvette are a constant a smart man or woman does some digging and can fix anything on a Corvette they stay the same woman on the other hand never know how they gong to wake up in the morning and are unfixable.. Do like I do if can't fix either just get a newer one ..

So my new frustratjon of the day... my new heater core has a leak. Not sure if its in the core or just leaking into the car from outside. I tightened up the hose clamps with a screwdriver and it seemed to help... maybe i need to give them hell with a ratchet to really seal them up.

Another heater core would only be 30 bucks, but its such a pain to do, especially since i finished it a few weeks ago
