Is Art Carr still making the best 700 auto's around?????
Anyone using his trans.??????
He is out of retirement......
Always use to be the best...
The company, Art Carr, is still going strong and making one of the best autos on the market.
There is a 65 Chevelle with a 496 BBC making 613rwhp/588rwtq around here with an Art Carr 700r4 auto, Art Carr 9" 4000rpm stall(non lock-up) that runs low 10's and he has recorded 4000 miles so far without any problems. Also I've done work on a couple of "cough-cough-fords-cough- cough that run Art Carr autos and thier owners love 'em.
I believe he is still retired, but does advise some yet.
They are still one of the best automatic tranny companies out there.
I bought a Art Carr 700r4 2 years ago. He told me it would be built with all the finest parts money can buy ($2600 worth of my money to be exact). I told them exactly what I do with my car and what my car was built with. It lasted all of 5000 miles. I still have it sitting on the floor in my garage. Just waiting to sell it to some poor sole that thinks they want it. I converted to the th400/Gear Vendors combo and love every minute of it. Check out my web site for some info on doing this conversion. It will cost you a bit more than a "super built bullet proof everything" 700r4, but, as the saying goes: you can pay me now or you can pay me later.
Art Carr is out of retirement and he is located in Huntington Beach.
Over the summer I went to Art himself and asked him to build me a tranny just like Bob86zz-4. he promised me the same story with the best parts and I paid $2600 including a 3000 non lock up converter, and installation.
The tranny lasted 5 days. I snaped the input drum shaft, they replaced it for free under warranty. To make a long story short, I had to take it back three times for them to get the tranny the way I asked for.
I have no complaints about the tranny now, but I am lucky because I live close to Art Carr. If you are in another state, think about the trouble you would have to go through if something went wrong?
Right now, this is the best tranny I have ever had, (had 3 previous Hi-performance 700s) but I did go through A LOT of trouble to get it right.
