Default Front bumper installation

Hi
I’m replacing the front bumper on my ‘92 coupe and am having a problem bolting the top section of bumper on. I am trying to double check I have this bracket on correct positioned on the inside of the bumper?

There is another bracket that goes on to sandwich the bumper edge. Should be 10149291 GM number.

I think that black strip is the "sandwich" bracket.. This installation job is MUCH easier with two people. Hook the top edge of the bumper cover over the sub-structure, and with a guy on each end of the cover, pull forward on each corner of the cover while you slide the ends of the cover downward into position. Then the "sandwich" bracket fits onto the back side of the cover (upside down from the orientation shown in your photo). Prop your hood half way open for easier access to the top bolts.
Be sure the "rub strip" is in place before you install the cover.

Thanks! So my question is, is the bracket on the bumper in the correct position (can’t remember how I took it off)?

The bracket mounted to the car is the other bracket mentioned correct? I thought the way it came apart was the bolts went through the bracket that’s mounted to the car, through the bumper, and fasten to the bracket behind the bumper sandwiching the bumper between the two brackets. The reason I’m questioning it is because I put the bumper on and put the bolts in the wheel well section and across the top sides above the marker lights but the bumper had a gap between the mounted bracket and bumper and I couldn’t get the bolts in that go across the top. I started questioning if I had it together correct because the side bolts all went on fine. Should I start with the bolts across the top of the bumper?

I'd better step out of this conversation. I've only worked with the early style bumper cover, which appears to be different than your '92 cover. I was hoping (WAG?) the procedure would be similar, but my comments are probably totally off base! Sorry if I mislead you.

The long black strip on your car has threaded holes in it, so it appears to me that you have it right. My early setup has threaded holes in the bracket that attaches to the bumper frame.

No mine is the same as you described. The threaded portion is on the bumper bracket. I’ll try tonight to bolt the top of the bumper first then the sides

But I am correct that the bumper itself goes against that bracket on the car and then the bolts go through that bracket, through the bumper and thread into the bracket on the inside of the bumper?

Here is my old 91 right after I removed the front clip. I sold the car before reinstalling it though. Hope this helps a bit.

I bolted the top of the bumper first and then the sides. I left everything loose until all bolts were in then tightened them down
